Colegio CEU San Pablo Montepríncipe is a private school of the Fundación Universitaria San Pablo CEU in the west of the Madrid region, on Avenida de Montepríncipe, next to the same foundation's university campus. It has two IB programmes - the primary (PEP) and the diploma - but no middle years programme: in the middle of the school path a child follows the national curriculum. Beyond the diploma programme the school also offers an American dual diploma (Bachillerato Dual), so an older pupil has a choice of several international routes. A subtlety of the address: the school writes its city as Madrid, although its postcode 28668 belongs to the municipality of Boadilla del Monte, and it gives no house number on the avenue at all. The school sets out its languages itself: from the 1st year of kindergarten to the 6th year of primary teaching is bilingual, with half of the hours in English - natural and social science, arts and crafts, physical education, English and conversation entirely in English, with native or bilingual teachers; French starts in the 4th year of primary and German in the 6th. In secondary English is taught every day plus an hour of conversation with a native-speaker teacher.

Admissions The school sets out admission in four stages: a request for information through the form on the site, by telephone or by email; a personal interview online, and from the 1st year of ESO with the parents and the child, discussing expectations, abilities and aptitudes; the application and place reservation - the school sends the reservation documents by email, and from the 1st year of ESO it first confirms admission and only then processes the reservation; enrolment - the family sends the documents by email, and the school confirms that the process is complete. The office is open during the school year from 9:00 to 17:00 and in July from 9:00 to 14:00. The school names no entrance exam, no deadlines and no conditions for foreigners.

What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: PYP (ages 3-12), DP (ages 16-19). PYP is the primary stage, ages 3 to 12. It is not a set of subjects but a frame for the whole school: learning is built around lines of inquiry, and there are no exams at the end. DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

Colegios CEUschool network

Colegios CEU is the school network of the Fundación Universitaria San Pablo CEU, a non-profit foundation set up in 1933 by the Asociación Católica de Propagandistas (ACdP). According to the foundation, it runs 25 educational centres - from early years to postgraduate study and vocational training - in twelve Spanish cities. The CEU schools page lists ten schools: three in Madrid (Claudio Coello, Montepríncipe and Sanchinarro), one each in Murcia (Molina de Segura), Alicante, Vitoria, Valencia and Seville, and two in Barcelona under the Abat Oliba name (Loreto and Spínola). Some of the schools are private and some are state-funded under agreement (concertado). The network's site is ceu.es.

What this means for this school. The network owns or operates the school. Its accreditation and programme authorisation the school obtains separately, in its own name.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
