Colegio Hispano Chileno El Pilar is a private school in Curicó (Maule region, Chile) from Pre-Kínder to 4° Medio, the final year of Chilean secondary school. It was founded in 1988 by José López Francés and Adriana Arancibia Aranda, doctors of philosophy from the University of Salamanca: the school opened with 80 students and one class per grade, and today, by its own account, it has about 900 students and two or three classes per grade. Since 2001 the school has run under the Chilean «financiamiento compartido» scheme (state subsidy plus family payments) and calls itself «Fundación Educacional con Financiamiento Compartido sin fines de lucro» (a non-profit educational foundation with shared financing). The curriculum is Chilean, academic («Científico-Humanista»), with a Catholic orientation. Since 2004 the school has been linked by an agreement with the Spanish Ministry of Education and belongs to the network of Spanish Centros de Convenio in the Southern Cone: students study the history and geography of Spain and Spanish language and literature, and can obtain the «Título Español de Bachiller» (Spanish Bachiller diploma) if they studied at the school at least from 1° to 4° Medio. The school itself describes this as the «licencia de enseñanza media Chilena y Española» (Chilean and Spanish secondary school diplomas), which allows applying to universities in Europe. The language of instruction is Spanish: all pages for parents, regulations, timetables and the club programme are written in it, while English is taught as a separate subject already in grades 1-4 (Básico). About twenty after-school clubs run, mostly sports and dance.

About the fees Under the school's payment regulation (Reglamento de Cobranza 2023) tuition (colegiatura) is split into 11 instalments: the first is paid at enrolment, the other 10 from March to December, by the 10th of each month. For 2023 the state allowed up to 3.148 UF per month (about 111816 pesos), while the school actually charged 98000 pesos per month from Kínder to 4° Medio. The Chilean Ministry of Education publishes the fee ceiling each year by 25 January, and the school sets its fee within it; no more recent amount is on the website. Fee exemptions (becas) follow the Reglamento de Becas 2027.
Admissions The school does not admit students itself but through the state Sistema de Admisión Escolar (SAE) of the Chilean Ministry of Education, a single online system for applications to public and subsidised private schools. On its website the school publishes the SAE guide for 2027: the main application period runs from 4 to 27 August, the complementary one from 10 to 17 November. For foreigners the guide says: «Los extranjeros residentes en Chile que postularán por primera vez» (foreigners residing in Chile who apply for the first time) must obtain a Chilean RUN number or provisional student (IPE) and parent (IPA) numbers. Students who studied at the school from 1° to 4° Medio can apply for the Spanish diploma. The school offers fee exemptions (becas) under the Reglamento de Becas 2027: points are awarded for family income and other circumstances.
Stages and year groups Grades Pre-Kínder - 4° Medio. Chilean «Científico-Humanista» curriculum: Educación Parvularia (Pre-Kínder from age 4 and Kínder from age 5, one class each), Educación Básica (1°-8° Básico) and Educación Media (1°-4° Medio), with two or three classes per grade (A, B, C). Spanish component under the Centro de Convenio agreement: history and geography of Spain, Spanish language and literature («Historia y Geografía de España, Lengua y Literatura española»). Students who studied at the school at least from 1° to 4° Medio can obtain the «Título Español de Bachiller» (Spanish Bachiller diploma) in addition to the Chilean «licencia de enseñanza media» (secondary school diploma).

Accreditations and programmes verified against official registries
MEFPDSpain's state register of schools lists it in its "abroad" section as a school under an agreement with the ministry (Centro de Convenio en el Extranjero), code 60001455. A pupil who has studied at the school from 1° to 4° Medio receives the Spanish certificate.

MEFPDMinistry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports of Spain
A school of the Spanish education system abroad: run by the Spanish state, or a private Spanish school supervised by the ministry, or a school under an agreement with the ministry. The curriculum is Spanish, and leavers receive the Spanish certificate. Every such school is named in Spain's state register of schools, each with its own code.
What the badge means for this school. This is a Spanish school abroad, and that can be checked in Spain's state register. The entry is not a quality inspection: a school is on the register as part of the Spanish system, not as the outcome of an assessment. The curriculum and the certificate are Spanish. What other programmes the school offers, and what it charges, are on its own website. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

The state school programme of Spain, with the Spanish certificates: ESO at 16 and the Bachiller after the baccalaureate.
What this means for this school. The programme is set by the Spanish Ministry of Education, which also names the school in its state register of schools, in the "abroad" section. Leavers receive Spanish qualifications: the Graduado en ESO after secondary school and the título de Bachiller after the baccalaureate. They are used for entry to Spanish universities; in other countries they are matched to local ones.
National programme
The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.
What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.
Exams and destinations from the school's official website
The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
