Colegio Hispano Americano is a private Catholic school in the Reñaca Alto district of Viña del Mar (Valparaíso region, Chile) for 7° Básico - 4° Medio, that is, for the secondary level. It is run by the Fundación Colegio Hispano Americano. The school grew out of the neighbouring Colegio Español María Reina: in 1982 its first 1° Medio class studied in María Reina's buildings in a second shift, and since 1983 the school has worked on its own 27000 m² site. At first it was a purely technical and vocational school; 7° and 8° Básico opened in 2011 and 2012, and the academic Científico Humanista track in 2015. Educación Media now has two tracks: technical and vocational (Técnico Profesional) with the specialities Administración (with logistics and human resources options), Contabilidad, Electricidad and Electrónica, and the academic Científico Humanista track. On 17 February 2003, under an agreement with the Spanish Ministry of Education, the school together with María Reina became a «Colegio Español» (Spanish school) with dual Chilean and Spanish status; for the Spanish ministry both schools are «un solo centro educacional» (a single educational centre) with code 60001443, and the curriculum includes the history and geography of Spain. The school is state-subsidised and free for families. On its home page the school reports more than 1400 students. Lessons follow a full-day schedule (jornada escolar completa) from 08:00 to 15:30, until 16:15 for older classes, and until 13:05 on Wednesdays; clubs run after lessons until 17:30. The language of instruction is Spanish: all pages of the website, the regulations and the circulars for parents are written in it; English is taught as a subject. There is a sports hall with a weights room, a sports ground and courts, a laboratory, computer rooms, workshops for electricians and electronics technicians, a library, a canteen, a chapel and 14 clubs.

About the fees The school describes itself as «PARTICULAR, SUBVENCIONADO Y GRATUITO» (private, subsidised and free): there is no tuition and no family co-payment (FICOM), including for the 2026 school year. The Spanish Bachillerato costs 19000 Chilean pesos a year for students who apply for this certificate.
Admissions As a state-subsidised private school, Colegio Hispano Americano admits students only through the state Sistema de Admisión Escolar (SAE): families apply on the single platform of the Chilean Ministry of Education, places are allocated at random, and under its regulation the school itself «no puede aceptar postulaciones o reservar cupos» (cannot accept applications or reserve places). There is no selection by grades or family income; the condition is that parents accept the school's Catholic project and its regulations, including compulsory attendance at religious events. The school admits foreign children: at enrolment a «Certificado IPE» (provisional school identifier) is accepted instead of a Chilean identity card, and the regulation states that «Alumnos migrantes» (migrant students) may attend without a uniform in their first year in a Chilean school. The school prepares catch-up materials for new students of 7° Básico and 1° Medio. The Spanish «Certificado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria (ESO)» is awarded at the end of 2° Medio to those who studied from 7° Básico at María Reina or Hispano Americano, and the «Título de Bachiller Español» (Spanish upper secondary certificate) to those who completed 1°-4° Medio at Hispano Americano.
Stages and year groups Grades 7° Básico - 4° Medio. Chilean curriculum: Educación Básica (7° and 8° Básico) and Educación Media (1°-4° Medio) in two tracks - Técnico Profesional with the specialities Administración (Mención Logística, Mención Recursos Humanos), Contabilidad, Electricidad and Electrónica, and Científico Humanista; all levels follow a full-day schedule. The Spanish component follows an agreement with the Spanish Ministry of Education shared with Colegio Español María Reina: the school writes that the agreement allows students to «recibir Certificado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria (ESO) de España al término de 2º Medio» (receive the Spanish ESO certificate at the end of 2° Medio) and gives «el Título de Bachiller Español a los que hayan cursado y aprobado de 1º a 4º medio en el COLEGIO HISPANO AMERICANO» (the Spanish Bachillerato to those who completed 1°-4° Medio at Colegio Hispano Americano). By level equivalence, 7° Básico - 2° Medio correspond to 1°-4° ESO, and 1°-4° Medio to 3° ESO - 2° Bachillerato. With the Spanish certificate students can apply to universities in Spain and the European Union without having Chilean qualifications recognised, or study from Chile at the Spanish distance university UNED. The curriculum includes the subject Historia y Geografía de España (history and geography of Spain).

Accreditations and programmes verified against official registries
MEFPDSpain's state register of schools lists it in its "abroad" section as a school under an agreement with the ministry (Centro de Convenio en el Extranjero), code 60001443. In the register this is a single entry together with Colegio Español María Reina: for Spain the two schools are one institution. The Spanish Bachillerato is awarded to those who completed 1° to 4° Medio here.

MEFPDMinistry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports of Spain
A school of the Spanish education system abroad: run by the Spanish state, or a private Spanish school supervised by the ministry, or a school under an agreement with the ministry. The curriculum is Spanish, and leavers receive the Spanish certificate. Every such school is named in Spain's state register of schools, each with its own code.
What the badge means for this school. This is a Spanish school abroad, and that can be checked in Spain's state register. The entry is not a quality inspection: a school is on the register as part of the Spanish system, not as the outcome of an assessment. The curriculum and the certificate are Spanish. What other programmes the school offers, and what it charges, are on its own website. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

The state school programme of Spain, with the Spanish certificates: ESO at 16 and the Bachiller after the baccalaureate.
What this means for this school. The programme is set by the Spanish Ministry of Education, which also names the school in its state register of schools, in the "abroad" section. Leavers receive Spanish qualifications: the Graduado en ESO after secondary school and the título de Bachiller after the baccalaureate. They are used for entry to Spanish universities; in other countries they are matched to local ones.
National programme
The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.
What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
