Colegio Santa María de los Rosales has been running in the Aravaca district of Madrid since 1952, founded by a group of academics and businessmen to create a private school that would be "a new centre of education". Today children of more than 32 nationalities study there, and the school has more than 10 thousand former pupils. Its 21960 m2 site holds 10793 m2 of buildings, divided into pavilions: a central one with the ESO and baccalaureate classrooms, laboratories, a library, an assembly hall, an amphitheatre, an exhibition room and a chapel; a separate kindergarten pavilion with its own library, courtyards, vegetable garden and rooms for music, drama, psychomotor work and speech therapy; two pavilions for the first cycle of primary school; and the sports area. Teaching is bilingual - the school calls Spanish and English its vehicles of learning - and from primary school on there are French and German with preparation for Cambridge, DELF and the Goethe-Zertifikat. The school describes its education as intellectual, social and spiritual, and Christian guidance is a service of its own. The main new thing: from 2026/2027 the school runs the IB Diploma as the Rosales-Nebrija International College programme together with Universidad Nebrija, with most subjects taught in English; the national baccalaureate in three streams remains alongside it. The 2026 leavers all passed the PAU, with an average university-entrance mark of 8.34. There are nineteen extracurricular activities, from field hockey and skiing to cello and electric guitar. Admission starts at two: the school has an "aula de 2 años".

Admissions The school takes foreign pupils: children of more than 32 nationalities study there. It names no special conditions for children from other countries and no requirements for documents or recognition of schooling abroad. The school does not describe its admission conditions: the admissions section carries only an information request form, an email address and telephone numbers. Pupils are taken from the group for 2-year-olds up to the 2nd year of the bachillerato; the school announces places in the Rosales-Nebrija IB Diploma programme for 2026/2027. It publishes no deadlines, tests, documents or language requirements.
Stages and year groups Grades group for 2-year-olds (aula de 2 años) - 2nd year of the bachillerato. The stages run right through: a two-year-olds' group, kindergarten, primary school, ESO and baccalaureate. At the last stage there is a choice of two paths - the national baccalaureate in the Science and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences and Arts streams with a set of options, and the IB Diploma within the Rosales-Nebrija programme.

What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

The school publishes its leadership by name: the director general, the technical directors of the kindergarten, the primary school and ESO with the baccalaureate, the IB programme coordinator, as well as the board of trustees and the administrative staff. About the teachers the school says only that the staff is "highly qualified"; it names neither the number of teachers, nor qualifications, nor the pupil-teacher ratio, nor class sizes.

Among its lines of work the school names the prevention and early detection of learning difficulties, a plan of attention to diversity (PAD), a tutorial action plan (PAT) and the prevention of bullying and school violence, as well as active work on the school's coexistence plan. The medical service has a doctor and a nurse on site daily, with annual check-ups, administration of medicines and several beds so that a child can be kept at school when the parents cannot come at once.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
