The École française Pierre et Marie Curie (Französische Vor- und Grundschule Pierre et Marie Curie) is a private Franco-German school in Heidelberg with a kindergarten and a primary school, founded in 1997 as a private initiative. It has an agreement with the AEFE and is accredited by France, and the State of Baden-Württemberg recognises it as an Ersatzschule, equivalent to a local state school. It takes children from age two (the Toute Petite Section) to CM1, i.e. grade 4. Each class is taught by a French and a German teacher, each in their native language; at least a third of teaching is in German, and the share grows each year. Teaching follows the French and Baden-Württemberg curricula so that children can continue in either a French or a German school. English starts in CE2: 45 minutes a week in CE2 and two 45-minute lessons in CM1. German pupils in CM1 are offered the DELF Prim A2 exam. After-school care is run mainly by German-speaking educators, with homework help in both languages. After CM1 children move, on the school's recommendation and the parents' decision, to Gymnasium, Realschule, Werkrealschule or Gemeinschaftsschule in Heidelberg and Mannheim.

After-school care after 13:10 is charged separately. French families can apply for a consulate scholarship. Association fees are tax-deductible.
Admissions Registration for the next school year opens in February and depends on available places; families receive a letter offering a place, which they must confirm, or the place goes to another child. The school application form is sent by email to the office; it asks for the nationality of the child and parents and why the family chose the school. The youngest group takes children from age two, Petite Section in September of the year the child turns 3 and only if toilet trained, and CP in September of the year the child turns 6. Children arriving after CP without German get individual German support during school hours, but the school also expects effort from the family; non-French-speaking kindergarten children get French as a foreign language sessions. French children registered with the consulate can receive a scholarship from the French consulate general in Munich depending on income. The managing association aims to educate children whose native language is French or German in the spirit of Franco-German friendship.

It runs the network of French schools worldwide, while the accreditation itself, the homologation, is granted by the French education ministry and inspected by French state inspectors. A leaver from a homologated school moves into a school in France without an entrance examination. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.
What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

The state programme of France. A school is homologated by the French ministry of education, and a leaver may move into a school in France without entrance tests. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.
What this means for this school. Which year groups of this school are covered by homologation - only the primary ones, or all the way to the final year - is not stated here. The difference matters: it decides whether the school takes a child through to the French baccalaureate or hands them on to another school halfway.
Exams and destinations from the school's official website
The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

What the listings show: teachers and educators qualified to French and German standards
Each class is taught by a French and a German teacher, each in their native language; they coordinate lessons weekly and prepare joint projects. The kindergarten has French teachers, German educators and assistants. Teachers and educators are qualified to the standards of both countries. Individual support in language and mathematics is given by a second teacher in class or in small groups. The head is named, but the website gives no teacher numbers or names.
Safety and wellbeing from the school's official website
The school says nothing on its website about security, medical care or pupil support.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
