Ellaluna American School is an American school on Calle Pandora in Madrid, authorised by the Community of Madrid under code 28049274. There are three stages: Nido from eighteen months to three years, Kindergarten from three to six (on the stage page, Kinder 1 from two to four and Kinder 2 from four to six) and Elementary School from six to twelve, in two cycles - grades one to three and grades four to six. Classes are small: 13 children in Kinder and no more than 15 in Elementary. The school names its foundations in its own words: innovation, respect and learning; it draws on the Reggio Emilia philosophy, on neuroscience and on work on projects the children choose themselves, and in Elementary it aligns them with the Common Core standards and Spanish legislation. English is the vehicular language of the school, and its share grows with age: about half an hour a day in Nido, 45-60 minutes in Kindergarten and half the day in Elementary, with lessons from native speakers; the other half of the Elementary day is Spanish language and culture and the other zones. The Elementary learning zones are logic and mathematics, reading and writing, art, construction, science, nature, social sciences, technology, and robotics and programming. Every day begins with experiential psychomotor work for all ages, and Elementary has capoeira.

Admissions The school does not describe an admission procedure separately: families get in touch through a form, by phone or by messenger, come to open days and a tour, and the school describes the start of schooling as introductory conversations and a settling-in period during which the family stays with the child. The stage is chosen on the form by age: Nido from 18 months to 3 years, Kinder from 3 to 6, Elementary from 6 to 12. The school names no deadlines, no documents and no conditions for children from abroad.

NEASCNew England Association of Schools and Colleges
An American accreditation working since 1885. For international schools it uses an approach where the visitors look first at live lessons rather than at folders of paperwork: the team works in the school for about a week. It is the only one here whose public directory honestly separates accredited schools from candidates.
What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
