Illustration · Camarma de Esteruelas
A Christian international school of the American system in the village of Camarma de Esteruelas, about thirty kilometres north-east of Madrid and eight from Alcalá de Henares. The school opened in 1973 with one teacher for the children of missionaries, worked in its first years in the Madrid district of Canillejas, and in 2002 moved into its own building in Camarma. Today it teaches from the first to the twelfth grade and runs an American college-preparatory programme: honors courses and Advanced Placement courses, and the American high school diploma in two versions. Pupils study the Bible every year, the school weaves a Christian worldview into all subjects, and chapels are held once a week. Teaching is in English; Spanish and French are taught as foreign languages. According to the school, in 2018 the Spanish state recognised it as an American school on its territory and gave it an official school number. Teachers work as volunteers from Christian mission agencies and receive no salary from the school, so fees stay affordable for the families of Christian workers. Lessons run from 9:00 to 16:00. The school also serves as a test centre for SAT, PSAT and AP exams.

About the fees The school does not publish its fees: they depend on the grade and other circumstances, and an estimate is sent on request through a form on the site. The school offers no scholarships of any kind, but the children of full-time Christian workers receive a discount, and the children of participating mission agencies a greater one. Payment can be made in instalments, and the terms are also given on request. Textbooks are included in the fees.
Admissions The school was created first of all for the children of American and other Christian workers, but it states plainly that it also accepts international students; among those learning English as an additional language are children who speak Korean, Spanish and German. Everyone whose first language is not English is tested for English proficiency before admission, and the minimum level depends on the grade. Registration for the next school year opens on 1 March; applications for the autumn semester are accepted until 1 August, for the spring semester until 15 November. Joining in the middle of the year is possible if there is a place in the right grade. An application is considered only when fully completed and after the application fee is paid. Families in the Madrid area are offered a tour and a meeting with the director.
Stages and year groups Grades grades 1-12. The school runs twelve grades of the American system: elementary school, middle school from the sixth to the eighth grade and high school from the ninth to the twelfth; there is no kindergarten or preparatory class. In elementary school, beyond the core subjects, there are music, art, physical education, Spanish and technology. In high school pupils study science, history, mathematics, English, Bible, fine arts, a foreign language and physical education, with honors and Advanced Placement courses. Graduation requires 25 credits for the College Prep diploma and 26 for the Honors diploma, plus 20 hours of community service for each year of high school.

MSAMiddle States Association of Colleges and Schools
One of the oldest American accreditations, working since 1887 in more than a hundred countries and linked to the Office of Overseas Schools of the US State Department. It judges the school as an institution across twelve areas, including finances, governance, premises and student support.
What the badge means for this school. The school is a candidate for accreditation by this organisation: the route has been started but not completed. Candidacy speaks of an application made and a file accepted for consideration, not of the outcome of an inspection, and the organisations themselves usually require schools to say that it does not guarantee accreditation. The candidacy is confirmed in the organisation's open directory.

An accreditation of Christian schools: the school spends eighteen months to two years on a self-study, and then peers from other Christian schools visit. Faithfulness to the Christian confession is part of the standards, so this is an accreditation with a condition of belief. It often runs jointly with MSA or Cognia, and such a pair is stronger than ACSI alone.
What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

The school does not state the number of its teachers. All staff come through Christian mission agencies, serve as volunteers and raise their own support; the school pays no salary. Most live within a few kilometres of the school. In elementary school specialists in English as an additional language work alongside class teachers.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
