IES Manacor is a state secondary school in Manacor on Mallorca, and it runs its website in Catalan. Its roots go back to 1968, when an Escuela de Maestría Industrial for joiners, electricians and mechanics opened here; in 2010 the school moved into a new building and became IES Manacor, and in 2023 vocational training split off into the independent CIFP Politècnic Llevant, leaving the institute with ESO and the bachillerato. The language of lessons is Catalan: of the Diploma Programme the school says plainly that most subjects are taught in Catalan, while pupils may receive teaching materials in English and Castilian. Castilian, English and a second foreign language - German - are taught as subjects. The IB Diploma Programme did not come to it at once: it began the authorisation process in the 2016-2017 school year, received authorisation from the Balearic education council and from the IB organisation itself in May 2019, and has taught the Diploma since 2019/2020, together with the Spanish LOMLOE bachillerato, so that a leaver receives both qualifications. There are two streams - science and technology, and health sciences - groups are small, and families pay only fees for the programme, 19 instalments of 90 EUR over two years. Admission to the programme is selective: marks, an interview with the pupil and the parents and a competency test, with a pass mark of 60. Beyond lessons the institute has a face of its own: an Aula Maker Lab, sections on wellbeing, co-education and the environment, the "Creativity, Activity, Service" programme, a partnership with the University of the Balearic Islands, prizes for academic excellence in ESO and school transport for the bachillerato. The library is its own, with a committee of pupils and a Bookface competition.

Admissions Admission to ESO and the ordinary bachillerato follows the Balearic procedure: pupils of the assigned primary schools of Manacor go through the assignment process, others apply in the general admission period, and those already at the institute keep their place without applying. For the Diploma Programme there is a separate application with marks for the third term of ESO year 3 and the first two terms of year 4, a copy of the identity card and a form about extracurricular activities; on the form the applicant picks a day and session from the interview timetable. Then come a video interview with the pupil and with the parents, an in-person competency test - linguistic, mathematical and scientific, up to 25 points - and the publication of the admission lists; the pass mark is 60. The school describes no separate procedure for children from abroad and no requirements for their documents.
Stages and year groups Grades ESO year 1 - 2nd year of the bachillerato, including the IB Diploma. Four years of the compulsory secondary stage, ESO, and two years of the LOMLOE bachillerato; the IB Diploma Programme runs at the upper stage alongside the bachillerato, and a leaver receives both qualifications. There are two Diploma streams. Science and technology: at higher level Catalan Language and Literature (4 hours), Physics (5 hours) and Computer Science, at standard level English, Business Management and Mathematics: Analysis (4 hours). Health sciences: at higher level Biology, Chemistry and Catalan Language and Literature, at standard level the same three subjects. Plus the compulsory core - theory of knowledge, the extended essay and CAS. Groups in the programme are small.

What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

National programme

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.

What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

Campus: The school has a library of its own, and describes it in its own words: not merely a place full of books but a welcoming, modern space for learning, research and growth, with a constantly growing collection of books, comics, classics and set reading. It is run by its own library committee, which also holds a Bookface competition and announces the month's new arrivals; part of the collection came as a gift from the Fundació Trobada. There is an Aula Maker Lab, a workshop of the school's own. An "Instal·lacions" page exists on the site, but it holds only a video, and the school does not list its other rooms in words.

✓Anti-bullying policy
The school builds safety on prevention and coexistence. The coexistence team is the head of studies, the coexistence coordinator, the school guidance counsellor, the social educator and the form tutors. The AAA programme (reception and accompaniment of pupils) gives newcomers mentors from older years, and pupil sociomentors work on digital citizenship and cyberbullying. The school has a coexistence plan, a guidance and tutoring plan, a plan of attention to diversity and a self-protection plan. It names no psychologist, no medical room and no security staff.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
