The Lycée Français de Madrid is a French school in Madrid under the direct management of the AEFE (the Agency for French Education Abroad), recognised by the French Ministry of Education and by the Spanish Ministry of Education. Its history begins in 1884 with the school of the French Benevolent Society; in 1919 the college became a lycée, since 1969 the main campus has been Conde de Orgaz in north-east Madrid, and since 2013 the second campus, La Moraleja in Alcobendas, has been extended. It teaches children from the age of two (Toute Petite Section) to the final year on the programmes of the French Ministry of Education, towards the brevet (DNB) and the French baccalaureate. The main language of instruction is French: in the kindergarten 21 of 26 weekly hours are in French, 3 in Spanish and 2 in English. Spanish language and literature and the history and geography of Spain are compulsory from kindergarten: this gives the right to the Spanish ESO and Bachiller certificates. In the upper years there are European sections (Spanish and English), a Spanish international section and the French international baccalaureate BFI - trilingual or quadrilingual with German or Italian; from 5ème English ELCE or Latin, from 4ème German, Italian or Latin. There are more than 4300 pupils from more than 70 countries: 54 per cent French (including dual nationals), 40 per cent Spanish, 6 per cent other. Staff number 500, of whom about 300 are teachers. In 2026, 99.7 per cent passed the baccalaureate and everyone passed the brevet. The school publishes its fees itself, in euros per year.

Admissions The school takes families of any nationality: it has pupils from more than 70 countries, and no French is required for the kindergarten - children learn the language by immersion; newcomers without Spanish start with a Spanish as a foreign language course and move into the regular classes after about two years. Applications are made through the online portal for one of the two campuses in six steps, with documents and the signatures of both parents; the school replies by email. The pupil's level is set by assessment and the guidance rules of the French system. A child enters Toute Petite Section at two full years. AEFEAgency for French Education Abroad
It runs the network of French schools worldwide, while the accreditation itself, the homologation, is granted by the French education ministry and inspected by French state inspectors. A leaver from a homologated school moves into a school in France without an entrance examination. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
