Lycée français de Prague (LfP) traces its history to 1919, when the Czechoslovak Ministry of Public Education and the city of Prague founded a French school for the children of the French military mission. The school was closed twice, in 1939 and in 1951, and the present lycée reopened after 1989; since 2001 it has been directly managed by AEFE, the agency for French education abroad. Teaching follows the programmes of the French Ministry of Education, and all classes are approved by France. The school is also accredited by the Czech Ministry of Education, so it issues Czech language and history certification itself and students need no extra exams at a Czech school. Lessons are in French: the school states 'Although lessons are given in French, students also communicate with each other in English or Czech'; Czech and English are taught by native speakers from pre-school. The school has 780 pupils of more than 40 nationalities and 90 teachers from the Czech Republic, France, the UK and elsewhere.

About the fees Annual fees for the 2026-2027 school year, in CZK: pre-school 185400, primary grades 1-3 200200, grades 4-5 200200 in the general section and 211600 in the international section (SI and BFI), collège 258500 and 273300, lycée 282500 and 298600. Czech bilingual classes: Ci and 6. třída 258500, grades 7-9 160400, grades 10-12 179700 (the last two rates only for pupils coming from bilingual 6ème). A 5% reduction applies to annual fees from the second child of a family. Fees include textbooks, computers, sports equipment, supervision outside lessons and language certifications.
Admissions The school takes children of many countries: it says it welcomes 'more than 40 different nationalities'; in the pre-school, according to the school, about 40% are French, 40% Czech and 20% other nationalities. Families apply through a form on the website, then the secretariat contacts them. The bilingual sections (integration class and bilingual 6ème) are reserved for Czech-speaking children: pupils from Czech 4. and 5. třída are admitted after a Czech language test (90 minutes) and a maths test (30 minutes), with about 15 pupils per class. Entry to the British International Section (SIB) is decided by the teachers' council, and newcomers from other classes are first tested in English; there is no entry to the SIB in 4ème and 3ème.
Stages and year groups Grades Maternelle (PS) - Terminale. Maternelle over three years (PS, MS, GS, from age 3), primary over five years (CP, CE1, CE2, CM1, CM2, from age 6), collège over four years (6ème - 3ème) and lycée over three years (Seconde, Première, Terminale). At the end of 3ème students take the Diplôme National du Brevet, including with the British international option; at the end of Terminale they take the Baccalauréat général; since 2024 students of the British International Section take the Baccalauréat Français International (BFI). The school warns that the BFI is not the IB Diploma. In primary there are two tracks: mainly French with Czech and English lessons, and a bilingual French-English track with equal hours. The British International Section starts in CM1 and adds 6 hours a week of English language, literature and British history. The bilingual section for Czech-speaking children (Ci and 6ème bilingue, 5. and 6. třída in Czech numbering) prepares them over two years to join the French classes.

Accreditations and programmes verified against official registries

AEFE · accreditation
The AEFE register lists the lycée as an établissement en gestion directe: the agency runs it itself, and all 15 year groups, from Petite section to Terminale, are homologated.

What stands behind each entry

AEFEAgency for French Education Abroad

It runs the network of French schools worldwide, while the accreditation itself, the homologation, is granted by the French education ministry and inspected by French state inspectors. A leaver from a homologated school moves into a school in France without an entrance examination. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

French programme

The state programme of France. A school is homologated by the French ministry of education, and a leaver may move into a school in France without entrance tests. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.

What this means for this school. Which year groups of this school are covered by homologation - only the primary ones, or all the way to the final year - is not stated here. The difference matters: it decides whether the school takes a child through to the French baccalaureate or hands them on to another school halfway.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
