The Lycée français international Victor Hugo (LFVH, LFIVH) is a French school directly managed by the AEFE agency in Frankfurt am Main, from kindergarten to the final year. The first French class in the city opened in 1949, the school was long run by a parents' association, and in 2000 it moved into a building constructed by France on Gontardstraße. About 950-1000 children attend, taught by 86 teachers. The curriculum is French, accredited by the French education ministry; the primary school (both bilingual tracks) and the international section of the collège are recognised by the state of Hesse as Ersatzschule, so children can move to German schools and back. German starts in kindergarten; in primary a third of lessons are in German in the French track and about half in the German track. In the lycée there are four routes to the diploma: the AbiBac (baccalauréat and Abitur at once), a German literature track with the DSD II language diploma, a European English section and the classic baccalauréat. In 2026, 97.3% of the 74 graduates passed the baccalauréat and 26 of 27 passed the AbiBac.

According to the school, fees cover all subjects and options, supervision at breaks and in the morning, support (outings, tutoring, exam preparation, guidance), textbooks up to grade 9, computers and sports, DELF and DSD certificates, lunchtime clubs and the organisation of official exams. Extra: meals, afternoon activities in kindergarten and primary, the sports association, trips, and Cambridge and HSK certificates. Parents taxed in Germany can deduct 30% of fees, up to 5000 euros per child per year, as the school is a recognised Ersatzschule. French families can apply for an AEFE scholarship.
Admissions The school admits children of any nationality from age 3, French-speaking or ready to learn French; the youngest kindergarten class takes children who turn 3 by 31 December of the year of enrolment. Children who started school outside the French system take a test, mainly of French comprehension; depending on the result a trial period may be set. Steps: online pre-registration with a file signed by the parents and acceptance of the financial rules, then payment of the first registration fee within 15 days, after which enrolment is final. The German bilingual primary track accepts only children with the required level of German (usually native), subject to places. Children without French get FLESCO classes, and those without German join beginner groups up to grade 10. French families can apply for an AEFE scholarship through the French consulate general in Frankfurt am Main.

AEFEAgency for French Education Abroad
It runs the network of French schools worldwide, while the accreditation itself, the homologation, is granted by the French education ministry and inspected by French state inspectors. A leaver from a homologated school moves into a school in France without an entrance examination. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.
What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

The state programme of France. A school is homologated by the French ministry of education, and a leaver may move into a school in France without entrance tests. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.
What this means for this school. Which year groups of this school are covered by homologation - only the primary ones, or all the way to the final year - is not stated here. The difference matters: it decides whether the school takes a child through to the French baccalaureate or hands them on to another school halfway.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
