Myland is an active international school at kilometre 13 of the A-474 road, in the municipality of Bolullos de la Mitación outside Seville; it is run by the Fundación Educativa Myland. The school was created by a family as an educational alternative for their own children and has been running since 2010, with the aim of offering Andalusia a model different from the usual one. Its authorisation comes from the Consejería de Educación as a private foreign centre, and it is working towards recognition through the American NEASC. The school teaches every stage: Infantil, Primaria, Secundaria and Bachillerato, with the secondary stage laid out in three cycles - Middle school, High School and Bachillerato. Myland takes the shape of its classes from Montessori: not year groups but three large cycles following developmental patterns, mixed ages within a group, and groups of fifteen students. Over the years families from Germany, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, the United States, Italy, Portugal and the United Kingdom have passed through the school, and that is exactly what the school names as the reason it became international. The main thing a parent needs to know: the school has neither a canteen nor transport of its own. The programme is bilingual: Spanish and English, with native-speaker teachers of both languages, following the whole language approach.

Admissions The school sets no examinations in the usual sense and reports to parents from observation, adding further reports when they are needed. On the canteen and transport the school answers plainly: there is no transport at present, though a route could be discussed if there were enough demand, and it provides no canteen service at all. The school writes that it is open to any family that wishes to take part in it, regardless of religion, culture, social and economic background or academic record, and says plainly that it takes international pupils, pupils with medical and learning diagnoses and children of different faiths and cultures. It names no deadlines, documents or entrance tests.
Stages and year groups Grades Infantil - Bachillerato. The school teaches Infantil, Primaria, Secundaria and Bachillerato. The secondary stage is laid out in three cycles: Middle school, High School and Bachillerato. The classes are shaped as in Montessori schools - three large cycles instead of year groups, mixed ages, and groups of fifteen students from the same cycle.

What stands behind each entry

NEASCNew England Association of Schools and Colleges

An American accreditation working since 1885. For international schools it uses an approach where the visitors look first at live lessons rather than at folders of paperwork: the team works in the school for about a week. It is the only one here whose public directory honestly separates accredited schools from candidates.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

The school does not give the number of its teachers, but on its team page introduces them by name: the head, a teacher specialising in special education, born in Canada and raised in Spain; the school's psycho-pedagogue from the Netherlands with Montessori training and a master's degree in educational psychology; the secretary and coordinator of the art strand; a music teacher who has worked there since the school was founded; two nursery companions with Montessori training, one of them with fifteen years of experience and training in sign language and psychomotor practice; a physical education and English teacher; English teachers, one with a degree in English philology; and a teacher born in London and educated in the United States. The school stresses that the programme is run by bilingual native-speaker teachers, Spanish-speaking and English-speaking. It gives no pupil-teacher ratio outright but names groups of fifteen pupils.

Safety and wellbeing from the school's official website

The school says nothing on its website about security, medical care or pupil support.

Reviews

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
