The Alexander Pushkin Joint Turkmen-Russian School was opened under an intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Turkmenistan signed in January 2002. In December 2009 the school moved into a new building: an eight-storey tower and two three-storey classroom wings of white marble. More than 1500 children of 26 nationalities study here, and 72 teachers work at the school, 37 of them in the highest and first qualification categories. Teaching follows the "Dialogue of Two Cultures" approach, Russian and Turkmen: from grade 2 children study the Turkmen language and in grades 5-9 the history of Turkmenistan, alongside Russian language, literature and history. The language of lessons is Russian: the whole school website is in Russian, and Turkmen is named as a subject. There are theatre, choreography and choir studios and clubs in rhythmic gymnastics, chess, crafts ("Umelye ruchki"), sewing, and beading and straw weaving. The school does not publish admission conditions or fees on the accessible pages of its website. The admission regulations state directly: "Teaching at the School is in Russian", following the curriculum of Russian schools, with compulsory social studies and Turkmen language under the curriculum of Turkmen secondary schools.

About the fees State-funded places are free: the school is financed by Russia under an intergovernmental agreement. For pupils on a contract basis tuition is charged; the school does not publish the amount on its website, and the contract is in the documents section.
Admissions Under the school's admission regulations, children of Russian citizens living in Turkmenistan and children of Turkmen citizens are admitted to state-funded places in equal numbers, as are children of staff of other countries' diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan. Beyond that, admission on a fee-paying contract is allowed, including for citizens of other countries. If there are more applications for Grade 1 than places, the school may hold entrance assessments: school readiness, speech, logic, mathematical ideas, knowledge of Russian. Children enter Grade 1 from 6 years 6 months on 1 September.
Stages and year groups A secondary general school: the website has a primary school section and core curricula for basic general and secondary general education. Turkmen is studied from grade 2, the history of Turkmenistan in grades 5-9.

What stands behind each entry

Russian state accreditationFederal Service for Supervision in Education and Science

Russian state accreditation, held not by the school as a whole but by its educational programmes: on an accredited programme a leaver receives the Russian state-issued certificate. Institutions abroad are gathered in the registry under a code of their own, and their certificates carry a term - twelve years from issue. No visit to the school is intended: since 2022 the indicators are calculated from documents and returns.

What the badge means for this school. The school holds Russian state accreditation, and that can be checked in the open registry. It means the right to award the Russian certificate on the accredited programmes - and nothing about the quality of teaching, the premises or the school's international programme. Levels of education are accredited separately, so it is worth checking whether the accreditation reaches the final year. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

Russian programme

The Russian school programme: a state-issued leaving certificate used for entry to Russian universities. The certificate is awarded on the results of the state final attestation - the OGE after Year 9 and the EGE after Year 11.

What this means for this school. This school holds Russian state accreditation: its education programmes have been checked by the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science, and the entry is visible in the open register. Accreditation is granted level by level, so the main question here is whether it runs as far as the final year: a school may have the right to award a certificate for Year 9 and not for Year 11.

Reviews

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
