Tallinnan suomalainen koulu (TASK, Tallinna Soome Kool in Estonian) is one of the official Finnish schools abroad, a private school run by a parents' support association. The Finnish Ministry of Education authorised it on 7 June 1995, and it opened in August 1995 with 22 pupils and two teachers. Today the school holds both Finnish and Estonian licences, follows the Finnish national curriculum and awards the Finnish basic education certificate, so after grade 9 pupils can continue in either Finland or Estonia. Levels are a one-year preschool class and basic education perusopetus grades 1 to 9; in autumn 2025, 46 children attended. There is no own upper secondary school: since 2012 Finnish upper secondary studies can be completed remotely at the partner Eiran aikuislukio with the school's support. The language of instruction and communication is Finnish; the school also teaches Estonian, English and Swedish and introduces Estonian culture. Classes are small, the atmosphere homely, and older and younger pupils often work together.

About the fees Fees for the preschool class and grades 1-9: 1210 EUR for the autumn and 1210 EUR for the spring term if the child has Finnish citizenship and a municipality of residence in Finland on 20 September; 1960 EUR per term with Finnish citizenship but no municipality of residence in Finland. The annual fee consists of tuition 1550 EUR, learning support services 357 EUR, lunches 513 EUR and a 1500 EUR surcharge for children without residence in Finland; it can be paid in instalments. Upper secondary: 750 EUR per term in years 1-2, 400 EUR in year 3. The sibling discount is 100 EUR per child per term for the second and further children. The fee list on the site carries no year; fees are set each year by the support association's annual meeting.
Admissions Applications are accepted all year, and pupils can join any grade, even mid-year. Priority goes to Finnish citizens temporarily living abroad; pupils also include children living in Estonia for whom Finnish is a first, second or third language. The main condition is sufficient Finnish, checked in an admission interview. Steps: online application with the latest school report (a transcript for mid-year transfers), pedagogical documents and copies of the passports of the child and the primary guardian; for preschool an early childhood education plan or a teacher's statement; an interview on site or by video if needed; a contract signed by both guardians; payment of the reservation fee; the principal decides on admission. Studying at the partner upper secondary school requires an average of at least 7,0 in academic subjects, Finnish citizenship and an address in Finland.
Stages and year groups Finnish track: a one-year preschool class (esiopetus) and basic education perusopetus grades 1-9 under the Finnish national curriculum with a local part emphasising Finnish language and culture and knowledge of Estonia; it ends with the Finnish basic education certificate, and the school has the right to award certificates. Status: authorisation from the Finnish Ministry of Education of 7 June 1995 to open a school abroad and an Estonian teaching licence (renewed from 2008 after a change in the Estonian private schools act); under a 2009 decision of the Estonian-Finnish mixed commission Finnish legislation applies to teaching and administration. There is no own lukio: since 2012 upper secondary students study remotely at Eiran aikuislukio, with the school providing a coordinator, study space, lunch and PE, and the ylioppilastutkinto exam is taken in Finland. Pupils moving on to an Estonian gymnasium after grade 9 get an intensive maths course in Estonian.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
