The Udine International School (UIS) is a private English-language day school in Udine for children from age 2 to the end of high school. It opened in 2003 with its founding partner, The International School of Trieste, which issues diplomas recognised by Italian law subject to an Italian language examination; in 2004 the Friuli-Venezia Giulia regional education office formally acknowledged the school's operation. It opened with 100 students and now has about 250. Teaching is in English; Italian language and culture follow the national elementary programme, and middle school adds a second foreign language and Latin. The high school opened in September 2022 with Grade 9 and adds one grade a year up to Grade 13; graduates receive a diploma the school describes as equivalent to the Italian state diploma, after 4 or 5 years of study. The school is CIS accredited.

Admissions Applications are accepted all year; the school states that it does not discriminate based on race, creed, colour, gender or national origin and seeks to accept all students who apply, and it is open to students of all nationalities. Previous school reports, medical records and an identity document are required; parents book a meeting with the Director of Admissions. No English is needed for the Early Childhood Centre, where the curriculum is entirely in English. For elementary and middle school English is not a determining factor: the level is assessed to decide on English as a Second Language, paid by the school in the first year; Italian as a Second Language works the same way. High school requires B1 English, checked by an entry assessment. There is no learning support department, and specific needs are discussed with the family before enrolment. Age: Pre-Nursery if the child turns 2 in the year classes begin, Nursery 3 if the child turns 3 by 31 December. When a class is full, a waiting list is kept.

CISCouncil of International Schools
It accredits international schools and is a paying association at the same time. It examines governance and ownership, the curriculum, teaching, student wellbeing, staff and premises; a team of volunteers from other CIS accredited schools visits the school. Membership and accreditation are different things here, and schools confuse them more often than anything else.
What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.
Register to check for yourself, and the full guide →Own programme
A programme written by the school or its operator, with no independent organisation behind it: the rules are written by the same people who teach to them. There is no outside register to check such a programme against.
What this means for this school. This does not mean the teaching is poor: it means the content can be judged only from the school's own account of it. What to look at here is something else - the accreditation of the school as a whole, and the outside exams its leavers sit.
SEKschool network
A Spanish organisation, founded in 1892; the site calls it Institución Internacional SEK, and signs the network of schools and universities "SEK-IES", International Education Systems. The numbers diverge: the home page names 26 schools, 2 universities, 17 countries and more than 25,000 pupils, while the "Red educativa internacional" page lists the same 26 schools - 14 "Colegios SEK" and 12 "Colegios IES" - and three universities. The Portuguese school stands among the "Colegios IES"; the history page puts its purchase in 2022. Whether the organisation owns the schools or manages them is not said. Not to be confused with SEK Education Group: that one has its own site, sek.es, and Portugal is not in its list of countries.
What this means for this school. The network owns or operates the school. Its accreditation and programme authorisation the school obtains separately, in its own name.

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
