Chiangrai Municipality School 6 is a municipal secondary school on an 80-rai site by the bank of the Kok River, opened on 14 July 1999 and answering to the education department of the city of Chiang Rai. It began with two classes, eighty pupils and eight teachers, and now has 4,146 pupils across all its stages and 374 teachers and members of staff. It teaches from the first to the sixth year of secondary school, ม.1 to ม.6, that is years seven to twelve, and the classes are divided by stream: in the lower years the sciences with technology and an English programme, in the upper years preparation for medicine and the health sciences, preparation for engineering, the natural sciences with mathematics, and English with Chinese. The campus came together in pieces: the lower and upper school buildings stand on either side of the road, and to them have been added an administrative building, separate buildings for the pre-medical and pre-engineering streams and a centre for study, sport and recreati. The school takes tuition payments through its own payment system but names no amounts on the site, just as it names neither its admission requirements, nor examination results, nor the universities its leavers go to.

There are two stages - lower secondary (ม.ต้น) and upper secondary (ม.ปลาย); the upper secondary opened in 2543 of the Buddhist era, when two ม.4 classes were taken. The school lists its buildings by year: the first teaching building, the second building, the lower secondary buildings (by 2559, the sixth building), the new upper secondary complex on the opposite side of the road, the administrative building, a separate building for the pre-medical stream, a separate building for the pre-engineering stream and a centre for study, sport and recreati. The school has counted its classrooms year by year: 23, 36, 54, 62, 68, 72.
