The primary school of the METU Development Foundation was founded in 1989 on a site of about a hundred dönüm inside the campus of Middle East Technical University in Ankara. The middle and upper stages opened after it; the school produced its first graduates in the 1996-1997 academic year and, in its own words, led the way for the foundation's schools in other cities. The foundation also has schools in Denizli, Kayseri, Mersin and Izmir; their figures do not describe the Ankara school, and neither do the figures of the whole family of schools.

About the fees The school's table for the 2026-2027 year runs from 389,000 lira for grade 8 up to 950,000 lira for the four and five year old kindergarten groups. Primary school: grades 1, 2 and 3 cost 800,000 lira each and grade 4 costs 423,900. Middle school: grades 5, 6 and 7 cost 725,000 lira each and grade 8 costs 389,000. High school: the preparatory class and grades 9, 10 and 11 cost 850,000 lira each and grade 12 costs 439,350. The final year of each stage is priced lower than the rest. All figures include 10 per cent VAT and no pre-VAT price is given. Meal, transport and other charges are promised later. Paying early earns a discount: 14 per cent by the end of February, 12 per cent by the end of March, 8 per cent in April and 6 per cent in May.
Admissions The kindergarten year admits by lottery. Applications are taken only through the school's own portal and only in the announced window: it opens in early January and closes in the middle of February, with the draw held before a notary at the end of February. Before the draw the child must attend a candidate familiarisation event, and without it a candidate is not admitted to the draw; the event costs 4,000 lira, paid by card with the application. Accepted families are notified by email and the results are posted by the school. In the most recent round the school took children born within one calendar year, with an option to apply for those three months older, and announced no intake for a four-year-old group.
Stages and year groups The campus runs four stages: the kindergarten year, the primary school, the middle school and the high school, which has a preparatory class before grade 9.
