The school opened in 1987 in Kozyatağı as a middle school and a high school; eighteen classrooms and three preparatory classes for teaching in a foreign language laid the ground for its language work, and the first cohort graduated in 1992. A primary school with a preparatory class opened in Suadiye in 1997, and in the 2008-2009 academic year a large campus opened in Ataşehir - roughly 18,000 square metres under roof on four dönüm of land - bringing every level under one roof. The Çekmeköy-Sancaktepe campus took its first students in 2014-2015: 11,000 square metres under roof on five dönüm. In 2019-2020 the science and technology high school and the Anatolian high school in Ataşehir opened, along with the Maltepe Narcity campus. English is the first foreign language; the school holds the right from the Board of Education to teach Spanish as a first language, with German and Spanish taught as second languages. It runs programmes of its own - ÜYEP for gifted students, a sports club and a careers academy - and takes part in SEMEP, Model United Nations, Erasmus, the Eco-Schools programme and the Duke of Edinburgh award.

Stages and year groups Levels run from a preparatory class and primary school through middle school to two high schools - Anatolian and science and technology - which sit on the Ataşehir campus.
