A school of the SEV foundation, Sağlık ve Eğitim Vakfı, in the Göztepe district of İzmir, founded in 1997. It has more than 850 students in grades K-8. The curriculum is the national one: the school says it works strictly in accordance with the Turkish national school system and the standards of the Ministry of National Education. The languages of instruction are English and Turkish. At least a quarter of the faculty is international; the school names teachers from the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland and Norway. The campus is shared with the foundation's high school, the American Collegiate Institute of İzmir: the middle school sits in West Hall, the primary school in Frank Hall, and the kindergarten on the Emerson site. The foundation itself was established by alumni of the American schools of İzmir, Tarsus, Üsküdar and Talas, and besides this school it runs American colleges and schools in Istanbul and Tarsus and the Redhouse publishing house; it is managed on a voluntary basis by a board of trustees and a board of directors, most of them graduates of those same schools.

About the fees The school keeps its figures in a separate file rather than on the page: the fees page carries only an invitation to open the document setting out fees and payment options for the 2026-2027 academic year, and no figures appear in the text of the page itself. The school separately points to scholarship opportunities.
Admissions Kindergarten applications are taken during the registration period; if there are more applicants than places, lots are drawn in the presence of a notary public and both an admitted list and a waiting list are drawn up. Other grades take students only where a place is open, through a transfer examination the school builds from skills inventories taken directly from its own curriculum. Admission follows the Ministry of National Education regulations for private educational institutions. A leaver with an average GPA of 75 or above across grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 moves into the prep class of SEV American College without an examination. Registration is handled by the preschool registration coordinator and the institutional communication manager, on weekdays from nine to twelve and from one to five.
Stages and year groups The school covers the stages from kindergarten to grade 8 and holds them as three separate institutions - an early childhood centre, a primary school and a middle school - which is how they were split when Turkey moved to the four plus four plus four structure. Classes generally run 24 to 26 students; for English lessons a class is split to bring down the number of children per teacher. How many classes there are in each year group is not stated.

Accreditations and programmes verified against official registries

CIS · accreditationSEV · school is part of the network
The school is accredited by CIS, the Council of International Schools: the organisation's directory lists it as accredited rather than as a member only, and those are two different things. CIS membership comes first and is compulsory, accreditation is offered only to members, and a school can belong to CIS for years without ever going through it. The accreditation itself examines governance and ownership, the curriculum, teaching, student wellbeing, staff and premises; a team of reviewers from other CIS accredited schools visits the school. The school's own English page puts it in one sentence: SEV Elementary School is fully accredited by CIS. It publishes no accreditation date, no account of the review and no entry number, and keeps no separate page about it. It holds no other registry entry: no IB, no Cambridge, no American accreditation.

What stands behind each entry

CISCouncil of International Schools

It accredits international schools and is a paying association at the same time. It examines governance and ownership, the curriculum, teaching, student wellbeing, staff and premises; a team of volunteers from other CIS accredited schools visits the school. Membership and accreditation are different things here, and schools confuse them more often than anything else.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

National programme

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.

What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

SEVschool network

Schools of the Sağlık ve Eğitim Vakfı, the Health and Education Foundation: the foundation was established in 1968 by graduates of four American schools in Turkey - Üsküdar American Academy, American Collegiate Institute, Tarsus American College and Talas American Middle School, - is governed by a board of trustees and a board of directors on a voluntary basis and exists separately from the schools. The foundation names eight institutions of its own: four American colleges - Üsküdar American Academy, American Collegiate Institute, Tarsus American College and SEV American College, - three Turkish SEV schools, in Istanbul, Izmir and Tarsus, and the Redhouse publishing house, set up as a separate company, SEV Yayıncılık. The cities are Istanbul, Izmir and Tarsus; the Istanbul kindergarten and middle school have moved to a campus in Çekmeköy.

What this means for this school. The network owns or operates the school. Its accreditation and programme authorisation the school obtains separately, in its own name.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
