Tarsus SEV Primary Institutions is a private school in Tarsus founded in 1997 by the Health and Education Foundation (SEV). The foundation was set up in 1968 by graduates of the American high schools of Izmir, Tarsus and Uskudar, and it lists its own institutions: the high schools of Uskudar, Izmir and Tarsus, Ozel SEV Lisesi, the primary institutions of Uskudar, Izmir and Tarsus, and the SEV publishing house. The foundation's primary schools were created to carry into the lower grades the same approach the American high schools have run for more than a century. The school building stands opposite the century-and-a-half-old campus of Tarsus American College, covers roughly 10,000 sqm, has won six architecture awards and holds 21 classrooms over three floors. Children from kindergarten to grade 4 study in this building, while the middle school occupies another building on the same campus. The high school dormitory sits in the same block, and the school describes the auditorium, the dining hall and the indoor gymnasium as shared by the two institutions. Each of the two schools holds its own registry entry.

Accreditations and programmes verified against official registries

CIS · accreditationSEV · school is part of the network
The school is accredited by the Council of International Schools. It is one of the institutions of the Health and Education Foundation (SEV), created in 1968 by graduates of the American high schools of Izmir, Tarsus and Uskudar; the foundation lists its institutions itself and names the Tarsus primary school as a separate entry beside Tarsus American College.

What stands behind each entry

CISCouncil of International Schools

It accredits international schools and is a paying association at the same time. It examines governance and ownership, the curriculum, teaching, student wellbeing, staff and premises; a team of volunteers from other CIS accredited schools visits the school. Membership and accreditation are different things here, and schools confuse them more often than anything else.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

National programme

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.

What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

SEVschool network

Schools of the Sağlık ve Eğitim Vakfı, the Health and Education Foundation: the foundation was established in 1968 by graduates of four American schools in Turkey - Üsküdar American Academy, American Collegiate Institute, Tarsus American College and Talas American Middle School, - is governed by a board of trustees and a board of directors on a voluntary basis and exists separately from the schools. The foundation names eight institutions of its own: four American colleges - Üsküdar American Academy, American Collegiate Institute, Tarsus American College and SEV American College, - three Turkish SEV schools, in Istanbul, Izmir and Tarsus, and the Redhouse publishing house, set up as a separate company, SEV Yayıncılık. The cities are Istanbul, Izmir and Tarsus; the Istanbul kindergarten and middle school have moved to a campus in Çekmeköy.

What this means for this school. The network owns or operates the school. Its accreditation and programme authorisation the school obtains separately, in its own name.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
