Anton Bruckner International School (ABIS) in Linz is a private English-language school with a kindergarten, primary and secondary sections. In its own words: "As an english-speaking school, ABIS offers a Kindergarten, as well as primary and secondary education for students ages 4.5 to 16 years". Its status is "a private school with public status, integrated into the Organisation of the Schulverein der Kreuzschwestern" (Privatschule mit Öffentlichkeitsrecht). The school started in 2008 with three classes under the name LISA-Junior. The primary section follows the IB Primary Years Programme, the middle section the IB Middle Years Programme. All students learn German: 5 hours a week in the PYP and 4 hours in the MYP. Lessons are taught in English: the school calls itself English-speaking, and all information for parents, timetables and admission requirements are written in English. The school is now housed in the Bruckner Tower in the Urfahr district.

The published table is titled "School fees for the school year 2020/21" (fees for the 2020-2021 school year): Early Learning Center 1000 EUR a year (10 payments of 100 EUR), Grades 1-10 2000 EUR a year (10 payments of 200 EUR). Admissions The school admits both international and Austrian children. According to the admission rules on abis.school, priority goes first to children arriving from abroad, then to Austrian children leaving abroad for a parent's job (with an employer letter), then to those returning from schooling abroad, then to siblings of current students; remaining places go to other Austrian children. German is not required for entry. Grade 1 takes children who turned 6 by 31 August; children born between 1 September and 31 December may be admitted after screening. Screening: Grade 1 motor and social skills, Grades 2-5 Math and English, from Grade 6 Math, English, German and Science plus an interview with the coordinator. Applications include the last two reports in English or German (otherwise an official translation), a passport copy, the education contract and a SEPA form with an Austrian bank account.
Stages and year groups Sections on the school website: Early Learning Center (kindergarten, ages 4.5-6), Primary Years Programme (primary, up to Grade 5), Middle Years Programme ("Middle Years Programme (11 - 16 years)", Grades 6-10). Fees are listed for "Grade 1 to Grade 10". The school leaving certificate and Grades 11-12 (IB Diploma Programme) are not described on the main website; the school's second domain abis.school says: "we are also a candidate school for the IB Diploma Programme (DP)".

Accreditations and programmes verified against official registries
IB · PYP, MYP, DP · authorised programmeThe IB register lists three programmes at the school: the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes. Some texts on the school's live website predate the register: the MYP is still described there as a candidate programme, and the age range is given as up to 16.

IBInternational Baccalaureate
A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: PYP (ages 3-12), MYP (ages 11-16), DP (ages 16-19). PYP is the primary stage, ages 3 to 12. It is not a set of subjects but a frame for the whole school: learning is built around lines of inquiry, and there are no exams at the end. MYP is the middle stage, ages 11 to 16. There are no exams here either; at the end an optional electronic assessment of pupils' work is possible. DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
