BASIS Prague is a private international school founded in Prague by Olga Block, creator of the American BASIS Charter Schools network; it follows the BASIS curriculum with its emphasis on mathematics and science and describes itself as part of the BASIS International Schools family. It currently consists of a preschool for children aged 3-5 in Břevnov and an elementary and middle school on the new Bubeneč campus: instead of grades it uses Levels; for 2026-2027 it accepts Levels 1-7, from next year Levels 1-8, and the high school (Levels 10-14) is due to open in 2029-2030. Level 1 takes children from six, and ready children from five. The whole programme is taught in English (full immersion), and Czech is compulsory from Level 1 to Level 10: the curriculum covers the entire Czech Framework Educational Programme, and foreigners without this obligation learn Czech as a foreign language. In the lower Levels key subjects have two teachers in the room - a subject expert and a lead teacher; from Level 5 there is one. Cambridge English exams are built into the English course; the future BASIS Diploma requires passing at least two Advanced Placement exams and Cambridge English C1 Advanced, and students may also take the Czech maturita. In comparative maths and science tests, Level 4 students performed on par with their peers at BASIS Charter Schools in the US.

Admissions The school admits both Czech and foreign children: in its language section it states that "Czech children and foreigners with permanent residence are regularly assessed in the Czech language in their catchment school. Foreigners without this obligation learn Czech as a foreign language"; the programme is designed for both Czech and foreign students. No English is needed to enter the preschool or Level 1. Admission is open year-round: an open day or tour, the application form, the registration fee, an entrance assessment (for the school) and the contract. The preschool takes children from age three, and children aged two and a half to three depending on readiness and space. BASIS Prague elementary students move up to middle and high school without entrance exams; new students take entrance exams.

What stands behind each entry

CogniaCognia, formerly AdvancED

The widest-reaching American accreditation: some forty thousand schools in over a hundred countries. It accredits both individual schools and whole school systems. It also sells a paid membership with no inspection behind it, and that membership is often passed off as accreditation.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

Own programme

A programme written by the school or its operator, with no independent organisation behind it: the rules are written by the same people who teach to them. There is no outside register to check such a programme against.

What this means for this school. This does not mean the teaching is poor: it means the content can be judged only from the school's own account of it. What to look at here is something else - the accreditation of the school as a whole, and the outside exams its leavers sit.

Exams and destinations from the school's official website

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
