Children's International School Moss is a private international day school for children aged 6 to 16, grades 1-10, authorised by the IB: the Primary Years Programme for ages 6-12 and the Middle Years Programme for ages 11-16. The Moss school opened in 2015; the website gives 268 students. All lessons except Norwegian and music are taught in English by English-speaking teachers; Norwegian is taught by Norwegian teachers, and students with other first languages receive support. English is not required on admission: it is learned along the way with support. A distinctive feature is the extended arts programme: an instrument, orchestra, choir, dance and drama on top of the required hours. The school operates under the private schools act, and fees are capped by the state. There are no upper secondary grades: schooling ends at grade 10.

About the fees The fee is 3850 NOK per month for PYP 1 to MYP 5, the same for all grades, in 11 payments a year; the year of the price list is not stated. The school is private, fees are set under state regulations, and the ministry of education sets the maximum. Siblings receive a discount, and families with financial difficulties can ask for reduced fees.
Admissions The school is open to all children entitled to attend a Norwegian public school and admits from the whole country; place of residence does not affect the decision. English is not required, but students must be willing to learn it: all lessons except Norwegian and music are in English, with support until students are independent. There is no application deadline: admission is rolling all year except June, through the school's online application system. Children usually enter the first grade if they turn six by 31 December; the principal sets the grade by years of schooling completed, and early school start is decided by the municipality. If there are more applicants than places, priority goes to children of staff and board members, siblings of students, former students of CIS schools, children from international or bilingual schools and preschools, documented interest in the school, time of application, and then a lottery. Applications are handled under the private schools act; disputes can be appealed to the county governor.
Stages and year groups Grades 1-10 (PYP 1-6, MYP 1-5). Grades 1-10: the IB Primary Years Programme in PYP 1-6 (ages 6-12) - transdisciplinary units of inquiry under six themes a year; the IB Middle Years Programme in MYP 1-5 (ages 11-16) - inquiry-based learning and approaches to learning skills. Teaching is in English, with Norwegian as a subject taught by Norwegian teachers. The school is private under the private schools act; some year groups have two classes, for example PYP1, PYP5, MYP3 and MYP5. On top of the required hours there is an extended programme of music, dance and drama. Schooling ends at grade 10.

IBInternational Baccalaureate
A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: PYP (ages 3-12), MYP (ages 11-16). PYP is the primary stage, ages 3 to 12. It is not a set of subjects but a frame for the whole school: learning is built around lines of inquiry, and there are no exams at the end. MYP is the middle stage, ages 11 to 16. There are no exams here either; at the end an optional electronic assessment of pupils' work is possible.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
