City American School, or CAS, is an American-programme school in the Al Tallah 2 district of Ajman, running from the first kindergarten year to grade 12. The curriculum is assembled to US standards and to the requirements of the UAE Ministry of Education: in the elementary years the California Common Core for English and mathematics and the Next Generation Science Standards for science, in the middle years the American Common Core, and in the senior years preparation for university with careers guidance and exam preparation. It calls its campus a large one - a million square feet - and lists on it a 500-seat auditorium and theatre, a regulation-sized football field, an outdoor basketball court, a spacious gym hall, science and computer labs, a library, a fully equipped music room, prayer rooms, an innovation hub with a STEM lab, and indoor and shaded outdoor play areas, including sand and water play for the youngest. Of safety it names CCTV cameras, access control doors and GPS tracking on its buses. The school runs more than a dozen clubs and divides them into academic ones - poetry, spelling bee, storytelling, Qur'an recitation - and the rest: art and craft, drama, cooking, sewing, sport, taekwondo and karate, choir, gymnastics and chess. The day runs from 7:15 to 15:30 Monday to Thursday, until 12:00 on Fridays, and from 9:30 to 13:30 on Sundays.

About the fees The school prints two prices side by side: the ministry-approved one and the discounted one it actually charges. Discounted, a year costs 14,200 dirhams in the first kindergarten year, 14,600 in the second, 17,200 - 18,400 in grades 1 to 3, 18,800 in grades 4 and 5, 20,100 in grade 6, 21,900 - 22,800 in grades 7 and 8, 24,000 in grade 9, 28,500 in grade 10 and 32,000 in grade 11; the approved ceiling is higher, from 19,800 to 36,000. On top of tuition the school charges 1,000 to 2,500 dirhams for books and 400 to 500 for uniform. The fee is split into three instalments due on 15 August, 15 December and 15 March. No fee is charged for July and August. Transport is paid separately and in the same three instalments.
Admissions Admission runs in five steps: booking an appointment by telephone or email, an entrance exam for grade 1 and above, a decision by the admissions team on the exam result and previous school records, submission of documents with the application form, and finally payment, after which the place is reserved and the child is issued a student ID card. The school says plainly that it takes students of various nationalities and that it helps those transferring from other Ajman schools, from other emirates and from abroad with the paperwork. Existing parents must complete re-registration for the next year by 30 June and pay the full year.
Stages and year groups Grades KG1 - grade 12. The stages run straight through: a two-year kindergarten, elementary school, middle school and high school. The school day runs from 7:15 to 15:30 Monday to Thursday, from 7:15 to 12:00 on Fridays and from 9:30 to 13:30 on Sundays.

An American organisation that allows a school to put the letters AP on a pupil's transcript. The permission is granted course by course and tied to a particular teacher, it has to be renewed every year, and College Board reads the course syllabus before granting it.

Advanced Placement: American advanced courses for the senior years. The exam for a course is set and marked by the College Board, not by the school. A good result is counted by American universities as a first-year course already passed, which saves a student time and money.
What this means for this school. A school does not get to call a course AP automatically: the College Board reads the course syllabus and approves it separately for every subject and every teacher, and the permission has to be renewed each year. American programme
