CLIP opened in 1990 in Porto as Colégio Luso-Internacional do Porto and began with 24 students; today it has 1226 students of 56 nationalities and 250 staff. The school follows the National Curriculum for England and states itself that English is the language of instruction in all year groups: the pages for parents and students, the curriculum descriptions, the daily timetable and the admission requirements are written in English, the Portuguese version of the site repeats them, and Portuguese, French, German, Spanish and Chinese are taught as separate subjects. The stages run up to Form 12: IGCSE in Forms 9-10, A Level and the AICE group diploma in Forms 11-12. The day runs from 7:45 to 17:30. Graduates go on to Portuguese and foreign universities, most often British ones. The school belongs to the Dukes Education group and keeps ties with ECIS, the UNESCO Associated Schools Network, the Eco-Escolas programme and the Confucius Institute.

About the fees The school publishes its fees as a table by year group in a separate document: there is an annual payment, an instalment plan over three payments, an instalment plan over ten payments and a discount for a second child.
Admissions The school considers all applicants regardless of ethnicity, religion, sex or national origin and calls itself non-selective: a place depends on availability rather than on a score. English is required because lessons in every year group are taught in it, and a child must be able to access the curriculum within a reasonable time; support for English as an additional language is provided for that. Decisions are made on school records, tests, an interview with the child and staff observations. Entry is possible from Pre-Kindergarten to Form 11; no new students are taken into Forms 10 and 12 because those are examination years. Siblings of current students and children of alumni have preference, everyone else is first come, first served.
Stages and year groups Grades Pre-Kindergarten - Form 12. Lower School: Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten (3 to 5 year-olds), then Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with Forms 2, 3 and 4 (7 to 10 year-olds). Then Middle School. Upper School: Forms 9-10 with IGCSE and Forms 11-12 with A Level and the AICE group diploma.

A British group, founded in 2015 by Aatif Hassan; the legal entity in the footer of the site is Dukes Education Group Ltd. It calls itself a family of nurseries, schools and colleges in the UK and Europe, with one school in Canada in a section of its own. The total number of schools, pupils and countries is not named on the site. The numbers for Portugal diverge: the "Portugal" section lists six schools, while the group's own news item about the UK-Portugal Business Awards says four. Of the schools it is said that they join the family; whether the group owns them, manages them under contract or gives its methodology under licence is not said.
