The school began in 1981 as the nursery Infantário O Mickey, Lda, was bought by its present owners in 1987 and renamed Externato O Pé Leve, and opened new buildings step by step: the pre-school at the end of 1992, the 1st cycle in 1996, the creche with the kindergarten and the 2nd cycle in 2004/2005, the buildings for the 2nd and 3rd cycles together with the pavilion and the pool in 2011/2012, and the secondary and international building in 2016/2017. It is now a large private all-through school in Pinhal de Frades near Seixal: about 1700 students from three months to eighteen years and four educational sectors - creche with kindergarten, 1st cycle, 2nd and 3rd cycles together with the secondary school, and the international IB Diploma Programme. Lessons are mainly in Portuguese: the Portuguese national curriculum, Portuguese pages for parents, a Portuguese internal regulation. English is reinforced separately - it starts in pre-school at age 3 and continues with external certification from the University of Cambridge - and the IB Diploma Programme, for which the school was authorised in October 2019, runs as an international track for ages 16-19. From the 7th year a student chooses a second foreign language, Spanish or French.

About the fees The school states its fees monthly: eleven instalments from September to July, with registration included in the first. Creche 444 euros a month, kindergarten 424 euros, years 1 to 9 429 euros, the national-curriculum secondary school 440 euros, and the international IB Diploma Programme 780 euros. Paying the whole year in September earns a 5 percent discount, paying in three instalments 2 percent, siblings receive 10 percent, and a merit bursary is available from the 9th year.
Admissions A new student is received at the front desk: an interview and a registration form to gather information about the child's development. For the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles, the secondary school and the IB Diploma Programme a diagnostic test of knowledge and learning level may be given. The form is accompanied by the citizen card of the guardian and of the student, and school records from previous years if the school requests them.
