Colegio Sagrado Corazón Chamartín is a state-funded private school (concertada) in Madrid's Chamartín and one of the oldest in the city: the sisters of the Sacred Heart established their community here in 1859, on 29 October of that year the opening mass of the school year was held with six pupils, and in 1860 a free school opened for the girls of Chamartín and Fuencarral. In 1931 the building burned, in 1939 the school reopened, and from the 1986/87 school year, under its agreement with the state, it became co-educational. Today it belongs to an educational foundation, and its website sits on the foundation's subdomain. The stages run from Infantil to Bachillerato. Its IB Primary Years Programme is authorised, an application has been filed for the Middle Years Programme, and the school is working towards authorisation in primary and secondary school. The language of lessons is Spanish: all the pages for families and pupils are written in it, and the school strengthens English through the BEDA programme, which gradually introduces bilingual Spanish-English teaching; the school is a Cambridge examination centre, and pupils sit examinations from Starters in grade 3 to Proficiency in the 2nd year of the Bachillerato, and there is also DELF for French. Since the 2015/16 school year the school has run the American dual diploma with Academica - online, from the 2nd year of ESO. The pastoral side is large: catechesis, Barat groups and families, "Hijos de María", a social action plan and solidarity campaigns. Extracurricular activities and SACO sport are run by Randori Sport, and there is mountaineering, a music programme and Talent Talk.

IBInternational Baccalaureate
A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: PYP (ages 3-12). PYP is the primary stage, ages 3 to 12. It is not a set of subjects but a frame for the whole school: learning is built around lines of inquiry, and there are no exams at the end.

Fundación Educativa Sofía Barat is a non-profit foundation set up on 5 March 2019 by the Congregation of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Religiosas del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús) as a canonical foundation operating across Spain. It brings together the country's Sacred Heart schools: the first of them, Colegio Sagrat Cor de Sarrià in Barcelona, opened in 1846, and in 2014 the congregation's schools were grouped into the Red de Colegios del Sagrado Corazón. The foundation's site lists 15 schools: in Barcelona (two), Madrid (two), Seville (two), Valencia (two, one of them in Godella), Zaragoza (two), Bilbao, Pamplona, Granada, Fuerteventura and Placeres (Pontevedra). The schools follow the tradition of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat, who founded the first Sacred Heart school in Amiens in 1801. The foundation's site is fesofiabarat.es.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
