Colegio San Ignacio is a Jesuit school in Oviedo, one of the schools of the Society of Jesus in Spain and part of its educational foundation in the north-west. It traces its history to the Colegio San Matías of 1578; the first Colegio San Ignacio in Oviedo opened in 1922 and closed in 1932, while the present school grew out of a preparatory school of 1958 and since 1973 has stood in its own building on the edge of the city, near Latores. In 1974 it became the first Jesuit school in Spain to introduce co-education of boys and girls. The school takes children from birth to 18: the 0-3 stage and the baccalaureate are private, while kindergarten, primary and secondary school run under an agreement with the state (concertado). The IB Primary Years Programme has been built into the primary school since the 2022/23 school year, the IB Diploma has run since the 2013/14 school year alongside the national baccalaureate, and the school teaches both programmes in Spanish. English is taught with Cambridge and Oxford materials, French is the second foreign language, and German can be taken in the language workshop. The school is an examination centre for Cambridge, Oxford and DELF, and its music school hosts ABRSM examinations. From the fifth year of primary school to the end of the baccalaureate every pupil has a personal digital device. After lessons there are sports schools, a music school with an orchestra, and language and art workshops; child safety is the responsibility of the Entorno Seguro system of the Society of Jesus, with an anonymous complaints channel.

About the fees The school says its prices are open and revised every year, but they are not on the site: the head of the relevant stage gives the current sum on request. Kindergarten, primary and secondary school run under an agreement with the state, while the 0-3 stage and the baccalaureate with the IB Diploma are private. On top of tuition the school offers a dining hall with its own kitchen, transport, a digital classroom, uniform, trips and outings; the Fundación Loyola Asturias gives some families grants for tuition and extracurricular activities.
Admissions For the stages under agreement with the state, kindergarten, primary and secondary school, admission is run not by the school but by the Asturias education ministry: applications are submitted to the school of first choice from 14 to 24 April 2026, places are allocated by points (siblings at the school, proximity of home or parents' work, family income, large family, disability), provisional lists come out on 6 May and final lists on 28 May. For the baccalaureate and the IB Diploma, which are private at the school, applications are accepted from 23 February to 30 June 2026. The applicant shows an identity card or a passport, and the birth certificate or family book is attached to the application; on entry the school looks at the child's language profile and works with it under its language policy. The school can be visited only by appointment: open days run in February, March and April, in groups of up to six families. The admission rules say nothing about foreign pupils or citizenship.
Stages and year groups Grades ages 0-3 - year 2 of the baccalaureate. The school lists its stages itself: the 0-3 stage, the second cycle of kindergarten, primary school, secondary school (ESO) and the baccalaureate, national and IB. The IB Primary Years Programme is meant for children aged 3 to 11 and is built into the primary school, the IB Diploma is for ages 16-19 and takes the two years of the baccalaureate. Kindergarten, primary and secondary school run under an agreement with the state, the 0-3 stage and the baccalaureate are private. The school does not state class sizes.

What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: PYP (ages 3-12), DP (ages 16-19). PYP is the primary stage, ages 3 to 12. It is not a set of subjects but a frame for the whole school: learning is built around lines of inquiry, and there are no exams at the end. DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

Fundación Educativa Jesuitasschool network

The name Fundación Educativa Jesuitas (FEJE) covers three regional foundations of the Society of Jesus set up in 2023: FEJE Noroeste (10 schools in Galicia, Asturias and Castile and León), FEJE Norte (8 schools in Cantabria, the Basque Country, Navarre and La Rioja) and FEJE Centro-Este (9 schools in Aragon, Madrid, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands). They belong to the wider network of Jesuit schools in Spain, Educación Jesuitas (Educsi), together with the SAFA, Loyola, Fundació Jesuïtes Educació and Radio ECCA foundations. Educsi gives different figures for the whole network on its own pages - 70 centres on one, 69 in-person centres on another - and we quote both; the same pages cite more than 80,000 in-person students and almost 40,000 in distance learning. All the schools are co-educational, and each has at least some stages state-funded under agreement. The network's site is educacionjesuitas.org, and the regional foundations have their own sites, such as fejenorte.com and fejecentroeste.com.

What this means for this school. The network owns or operates the school. Its accreditation and programme authorisation the school obtains separately, in its own name.

There is a guidance department with counsellors, assistants and specialists in therapeutic pedagogy and speech therapy, and every class has its own tutor. Contact with teachers goes through the Educamos platform and Google Classroom.

The school names no security guards, no video surveillance and no medical room.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
