Criança Montessori School is a private school in Alcalá de Guadaíra near Seville, at Calle Pinsapo 32, beside the Oromana park. Its legal standing is unusual for a Spanish school: it calls itself a "centro docente privado extranjero homologado por la Junta de Andalucía" - a foreign private school recognised by the government of Andalusia - and it has the centre code 41023788. In the directory of MSA, an American accreditation of the institution as a whole, the school stands with a live entry. Children are taken from the age of three, and the stages run right through: Casa de Niños from three to six, Taller I and II from six to twelve, and Secundaria from twelve to fourteen. Teaching is bilingual - Spanish and English. The school builds its pedagogy from several sources: the Montessori method as the base, plus active and systemic pedagogy, Aucouturier psychomotor practice and non-violent communication. Of its premises it names an outdoor yard, a sandpit and a psychomotor room, and next door the Oromana park, where the school takes the children. The main thing a parent needs to know: the school ends at fourteen, that is in the second year of ESO, and the upper stage is finished at another school.

Admissions The school sets out admission in four steps: a first call or email, after which the admissions coordinator sends an information pack; a visit to the school during school hours; an observation morning, when the family watches a class at work without stepping in; and a conversation with the tutor of the group the child will join, by phone or video. To reserve a place the family asks the office for a form, signs the contract and pays half of the enrolment fee, with the rest due in September, or all at once when joining mid-year. Siblings of pupils have priority: in February families renew their enrolment for the following year, and places for new families open in March, subject to availability. For a child with special needs the school first holds a meeting with the family and an observation period and only then confirms the reservation. The admission page says nothing about foreigners, citizenship or language as a condition.
Stages and year groups Grades Casa de Niños from age 3 - Secundaria, up to age 14. Three stages run one after another: Casa de Niños from three to six, Taller I and Taller II from six to twelve, Secundaria from twelve to fourteen. The school ends at fourteen: it has no baccalaureate, and a leaver finishes the upper stage at another school.

What stands behind each entry

MSAMiddle States Association of Colleges and Schools

One of the oldest American accreditations, working since 1887 in more than a hundred countries and linked to the Office of Overseas Schools of the US State Department. It judges the school as an institution across twelve areas, including finances, governance, premises and student support.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

Montessori

The pedagogy of Maria Montessori: a child chooses the activity, works at their own pace with special materials, and mixed-age groups are arranged so that older children teach the younger ones. It is used most often in the nursery and primary stages.

What this means for this school. The name Montessori belongs to nobody: any school may call itself a Montessori school, and there is no single body that checks this. There are associations that train teachers and recognise schools, but membership of them is voluntary, and our entry means exactly that the school describes itself this way. This pedagogy has no leaving certificate, so what to look at is what the school finishes with.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
