The German International School Dubai is a recognised German school abroad with a full cycle from the kindergarten to the German International Abitur. It has more than a thousand pupils, more than thirty nationalities and more than a hundred teachers, and counts more than three hundred and fifty Abitur leavers since 2012. Its history came in sideways and is worth knowing: it began in the 2004-2005 school year as a Dubai branch of the German International School Sharjah, working in the premises of the Al Mawakeb school in Al Barsha; in December 2004 the ruling house of Dubai granted it a plot in Academic City, in 2006 the kindergarten moved to a villa in Jumeirah, and in August 2007 the branch moved into the premises of Dubai English Speaking College with a hundred and forty children by then; it became a school in its own right later. German is the core competence, but the school says many of its pupils reach native-speaker level in English and Arabic too. The learning environment is strong in science: laboratories, libraries, modern sports facilities and a drive for excellence in mathematics, computing, science and technology. Every primary and secondary class works with up-to-date technology. There are more than fifty co-curricular activities and more than twenty competitions a year; the afternoon programme is run by the provider Gulf Star Sports.

About the fees The KHDA-approved annual fee for 2025-2026 rises by grade: Pre-KG and KG 1 - 38,760 dirhams, KG 2 - 42,843, grades 1-4 45,730, grade 5 57,854, grades 6-10 62,656 and grades 11-12 73,227. It is paid in three instalments: 40 per cent by 15 August and 30 per cent each by 1 January and 1 April. The application fee of 525 dirhams including VAT per child is payable at once and is refunded only if the school offers no place. Once a place is offered there are seven days to secure it with a non-refundable enrolment fee of 10 per cent of the annual tuition, which is then credited against the fee. Textbooks are provided by the school; lost or damaged ones are charged for. Class trips are not included.
Admissions The school takes its age rule from the KHDA: a child entering Pre-KG, the first kindergarten year, must turn three before 31 August, and the rule applies to all new pupils from Pre-KG to grade 1. Others enter the grade matching the age given in the school's age table and bring a transfer certificate. For children coming from a non-German curriculum the school publishes a guide table showing which grade to apply for, with the admissions team and the education authority deciding finally.
Stages and year groups Grades Pre-KG (age 3) - grade 12. The stages run straight through: kindergarten Pre-KG, KG 1 and KG 2, primary school, lower secondary and upper secondary leading to the German International Abitur. Fees are published for every grade from Pre-KG to 12.
