One of the oldest German schools abroad, founded in 1896 on the initiative of architect and archaeologist Wilhelm Dörpfeld; since 1968 on its own campus in Maroussi. A Begegnungsschule: German curriculum with a strong Greek component, financial and staffing support from Germany, twice named an "Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule". Kindergarten and Vorschule for ages three to six, primary (grades 1-4) fully in German, Gymnasium from grade 5 to 12 ending with the Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA), which Greece treats as equivalent to the Lykeio certificate and which gives access to the Panhellenic exams. From grade 7 children from Greek primary schools join (Profil E): sciences, mathematics, music, sport and art are taught in German, humanities in Greek. Language of instruction stated by the school.

About the fees Uniform 2026-2027 tuition for all stages from kindergarten to grade 12 (core time 8:00 to 14:25) is 6120 EUR a year; 5920 if paid by the end of July, 5560 for the third and further children. Afternoon care in kindergarten and Vorschule from 14:30 to 16:00 costs 300 EUR. The school attributes the moderate fee to German state support and offers reductions on application, except in the first year and in kindergarten.
Admissions The school writes: "Grundsätzlich können Kinder aller Nationalitäten an der DSA angemeldet werden", and kindergarten and Vorschule "stehen Kindern aus allen Nationen offen"; no German passport is needed. The key condition is German: at three no German is required, at four the child must understand German, at five communicate well; primary requires very good German because children learn in it. Children from the school's own Vorschule have priority; for other places there is a meeting with the child and a parent, decisions usually in April. Entry to grade 7 (Profil E) is by a German entrance exam at B1 level: written part, then oral. Guest pupils from abroad are taken for a limited time if a place is free.
Stages and year groups Grades Kindergarten, Vorschule, 1-12. Kindergarten from age 3 and Vorschule at 5; Grundschule grades 1-4; Gymnasium: Sekundarstufe I (5-9, Orientierungsstufe in 5-6) and Sekundarstufe II (10-12). Two profiles: Profil D for German-speaking children from grade 5 and Profil E for children from Greek primary schools from grade 7; from 2026-2027 the profiles merge in grades 7-9. Leaving qualification: Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA) after grade 12, with Hauptschulabschluss after grade 9 and Mittlerer Schulabschluss after grade 10 also possible. Greek is studied at native (NaM, up to C2) or foreign-language level (NaF, up to B2). No IB.

ZfACentral Agency for German Schools Abroad
A German federal agency. It recognises a school as a German school abroad, funds it and grants the right to award the German leaving certificate. Quality is examined by a state inspection about once every six years, and schools that pass receive the mark of an excellent German school abroad.
What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

The German school programme. Recognised German schools abroad award the Deutsches Internationales Abitur, the German leaving certificate used for entry to universities in Germany. Behind the recognition stands the federal agency ZfA.
What this means for this school. ZfA recognition comes at levels: a school that takes pupils through to the German leaving certificate is one thing, a school with the DSD language diploma, where German is taught as a subject, is another. Which level this school holds is not stated here.

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
