Escuela Internacional Waldorf Sevilla Girasol is a small private Waldorf school in Mairena del Aljarafe outside Seville. It grew out of a parents' venture: in February 2012 three Seville families set up an association, in 2013 they opened a play group with a single child, in 2015 ten families stood financial guarantee for the project and the school won authorisation to operate as a private Waldorf/Steiner early years centre, and in the 2017/2018 school year its first primary class opened; after that it added a class a year, expecting to complete the whole primary stage from Year 1 to Year 6 by 2022/2023. Today it holds more than sixty children from the age of three to the end of primary, thirty per cent of them from other countries - six nationalities and three continents. It is authorised by the Junta de Andalucía as a private foreign school and teaches the international Waldorf curriculum. Everything is arranged after Steiner: no more than fifteen children to a teacher, no textbooks - each child makes a book of their own - a main lesson taking the first two hours of the day and holding to one subject for about four weeks, and around it a rhythm repeated day by day and year by year: the bread-kneading day, the watercolour day, the day of work in the garden, the harvest, lantern and Christmas festivals. In the kindergarten what matters is free play and simple toys made by the parents and teachers from wood, wool and cloth, with beeswax crayons and mineral pigments. In the primary school the child brings their own breakfast, and lunch too: the dining room is open but the pupil eats food brought from home. A child keeps the same class teacher through the whole stage - one of the three pillars the school names as its own.

About the fees Fees for 2026-2027 are quoted monthly: 370 EUR a month for the second early years cycle for ages 3-6 and 420 EUR for the primary school. There are twelve compulsory instalments across the school year, with the August one charged at half, so the year comes to 4255 EUR in the early years and 4830 EUR in the primary school. On top of the fee: a place reservation of 325 EUR a year, non-refundable; a charge for setting up the international academic record, a one-off and also non-refundable, whose size the school sets according to the number of enrolments in that year; and materials at 65 EUR a term in the early years. The extra services are charged separately: a morning club from 8:00 to 9:00 at 30 EUR a month or 3 EUR for a single day, lunch supervision from 14:00 to 15:00 at 50 EUR a month or 6 EUR a day, and an afternoon club from 15:00 to 16:00 at 30 EUR a month or 3 EUR a day; in the dining room the pupil eats their own food. Discounts: 50 per cent off the place reservation for a second child at the school and 30 per cent off the lower of the fees for a second child; for a third and beyond the school asks families to enquire.
Admissions For 2026-2027 the school has announced places in the second cycle of kindergarten (ages 3-6) and in primary, with availability by class to be checked; families are received individually and shown a day at the school. On moving from kindergarten to primary, or from a conventional school in the middle of the primary stage, a child takes a maturity assessment with teachers trained in Waldorf support pedagogy and psycho-pedagogy, and in kindergarten with the school doctor; children who on that basis are not ready for the class matching their age are not admitted, because the school cannot provide the support they would need. The place is secured by a non-refundable reservation. The school admits foreign pupils: thirty per cent of its pupils, it says, come from other countries - six nationalities and three continents - and it is authorised by the Junta de Andalucía as a private foreign educational institution; on enrolment a fee is charged for processing the international academic record. The school names no requirements regarding Spanish or the homologation of documents.
Stages and year groups Grades second early years cycle (ages 3-6) - Year 6 of primary. The school opened its stages one at a time: the early years from 2015, the primary school from 2017/2018 at a class a year, expecting to complete Years 1 to 6 by 2022/2023. It has no secondary stage, although one is named in the association's aims. The early years day runs from 9:00 to 14:15, with arrival allowed from 8:45. In the primary school the day opens with a two-hour main lesson, then breakfast, tidying the classroom, half an hour of free play in the garden and the specialist lessons. In primary two foreign languages are taught from the first year, English and German; English begins already in kindergarten, through songs and poems.

What stands behind each entry

NEASCNew England Association of Schools and Colleges

An American accreditation working since 1885. For international schools it uses an approach where the visitors look first at live lessons rather than at folders of paperwork: the team works in the school for about a week. It is the only one here whose public directory honestly separates accredited schools from candidates.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
