The Greek state schools in Nürnberg are two primary schools, a lower secondary school and the general lyceum 'Nikos Kazantzakis'. The city's Greek school opened in 1966: first six primary grades, from 1974 a lower secondary school, from 1976 a lyceum. The lyceum, the lower secondary school and the 1st primary school share a rented building on Striegauer Straße in the Langwasser district. The primary and lower secondary schools are bilingual: in the Gymnasio about 60% of lessons are in German and 40% in Greek, there has been a grade 10 since 2009, and students sit the Bavarian QUALI and MSA exams and obtain the Mittlere Reife. The lyceum follows the Greek curriculum and leads to the Greek lyceum leaving certificate (Apolytirio); graduates take the Panhellenic exams for Greeks abroad and enter Greek universities: 22 graduates were admitted in 2025 and 20 in 2024. All costs are borne by the Greek state, and teachers are seconded by the Greek Ministry of Education. The sites do not list foreign languages taught as subjects.

About the fees Tuition is free: the lyceum is run by the Consulate General of Greece in München, and 'all costs are borne by the Greek state, that is, the Ministry of Education'.
Admissions Enrolment in the lyceum takes place in July: students who have completed grade 9 or 10 at the Greek Gymnasio in Nürnberg, another Greek Gymnasio abroad or a German school submit an application signed by both parents with their leaving certificate in Greek and German. Required are the parent's and student's ID card or passport, a birth certificate, a medical certificate for PE and a residence registration (Anmeldebescheinigung). Former lyceum students who did not obtain the certificate may re-enrol at the start of the school year; adults sign their own forms. Students in lyceum years 1 and 2 renew their enrolment at the end of the year.
Stages and year groups Grades 1-12. The two primary schools (Dimotiko; under Bavarian law Private Volksschule, where grades 1-9 count as one school) and the lower secondary school (Gymnasio, grades 7-10; grade 10 added in 2009) follow a bilingual programme: in the Gymnasio about 60% of lessons are in German and 40% in Greek, and students sit the Bavarian QUALI and MSA exams, the latter giving the Mittlere Reife. The general lyceum (Geniko Lykeio, grades 10-12) follows the Greek curriculum entirely, leading to the Greek lyceum leaving certificate (Apolytirio). In Germany this certificate counts as the Abitur only if the student has taken the Panhellenic exams and scored at least 10 out of 20 in every subject. There are no international programmes.

YPAITHAGreece's Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports (YPAITHA)
A Greek school abroad: the Greek curriculum taught in Greek, and the school belongs to the formal Greek education system under the ministry's supervision. Every such school is named on the list of Greece's education ministry.
What the badge means for this school. This is a Greek school abroad, and that can be checked on the list of Greece's education ministry. The entry is not a quality inspection: a school is on the list as part of the Greek education system, not as the outcome of an assessment. The curriculum and the certificate are Greek. Whom the school admits and what it charges are on its own website. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

The Greek school curriculum taught in Greek, with Greek qualifications: the gymnasium certificate and the lyceum certificate.
What this means for this school. The curriculum is set by Greece's education ministry, which also names the school on its list of Greek-language schools abroad that belong to the formal Greek education system. A lyceum leaver receives the Greek school-leaving certificate used for entry to Greek universities; for children of Greeks living abroad Greece has a separate quota in the university entrance examinations.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
