IES Pedro de Luna is a state institute in the very centre of Zaragoza, between Calle Coso and Calle Universidad, on the site of the collapsed Cerbuna chapel of the old university. The school traces its history from a branch of the Miguel Servet institute opened here in 1964; in 1975 it became the independent Instituto Mixto nº 3, and in the 1977-1978 school year the new building took the name of the Aragonese pope Pedro de Luna. The institute teaches ESO and bachillerato, and beyond them a basic vocational cycle in cooking and catering and a preparatory course for the tests for higher-level vocational cycles. Its main distinction is bilingual teaching: all four ESO years come in two versions, in Spanish and bilingual Spanish-English, under the agreement between the education ministry and the British Council; in bachillerato there is an advanced English track. Bachillerato has three tracks: humanities and social sciences, science and technology, and music and drama. The school has more than ten programmes: the Clásicos Luna theatre, the cultural passport, STARS on safe journeys to school, Erasmus+, Cruzando Fronteras, a class for developing abilities, a coexistence programme, the school library, the Health-Promoting Schools network. Every year group travels somewhere: an English week near Barcelona in ESO year 1, Liverpool in year 2, Erasmus+ exchanges with Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, France and Greece later on. Lessons are in the morning, from 8:15 to 14:00, until 15:00 in bilingual classes.

About the fees Tuition is free: this is a state institute. As for money matters, the school reports on the education ministry's scholarship scheme and the textbook bank.
Admissions The institute is a state school, admission to ESO and bachillerato follows the general procedure of Aragón through the region's education portal, and tuition is free. The school names a separate condition for its special tracks: pupils joining ESO year 2, 3 or 4 from outside the British Council bilingual programme take a test for entry to the bilingual programme, and bachillerato entrants who do not meet the criteria take a test for the advanced English track; the test is held once a year, in 2026 on 3 September from 9:00 to 11:00, with no prior registration, with a passport or identity card. The school writes nothing about foreign pupils or documents for them.
Stages and year groups Grades ESO year 1 - bachillerato year 2 and a basic vocational cycle. Four ESO years, each in two versions - in Spanish and bilingual Spanish-English; bachillerato with three tracks - humanities and social sciences, science and technology, and music and drama, with an advanced English track; a basic vocational cycle in cooking and catering and a preparatory course for the tests for higher-level vocational cycles. Accreditations and programmes verified against official registries

Cambridge · authorised programme
The school names not a single Cambridge stage anywhere on its site: its bilingual programme comes from the agreement between the Spanish education ministry and the British Council, and the British Council is not the same thing as Cambridge. Which Cambridge registration lies behind the register entry cannot be determined from the school's own site.

What stands behind each entry

CambridgeCambridge International Education

Part of the University of Cambridge. It allows a school to teach the Cambridge programmes and to enter pupils for the exams. There are four stages and they are authorised separately: primary, lower secondary, IGCSE and A Level. If the stages are known they are named in the line below; if that line is missing, the school does not publish them, and the Cambridge registry does not show stages either - it gives only the name of the centre, the country and whether private candidates are accepted. Cambridge calls what it does registration rather than accreditation, and the network holds about ten thousand schools.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. Which stages - from the early years programme for three-year-olds up to A-Level - this school is approved for is not stated here.

National programme

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.

What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

Exams and destinations from the school's official website

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
