La Estrella del Pez Luna is a small school of active pedagogy in Madrid, on Avenida de Casa Quemada. It was opened in 2017 by Clara Muñoz Beteta on the basis of the El Pez Luna association, which since 2010 has worked on respectful upbringing and on courses for parents and teachers. The school calls itself an international school of active education and takes children from Infantil through Primaria to Secundaria; it opened the secondary stage in September 2025. Teaching goes without marks and standard tests: free play, projects, workshops, Montessori-style manipulative materials, mixed-age groups and constructivist assessment, by which teachers write a detailed report on each child twice a year. The school builds its curriculum on the Spanish LOMLOE law and at the secondary stage combines it with Cambridge programmes and IGCSE. An important part of the secondary school is the "living classrooms": regular visits to the museums, theatres and science centres of Madrid and to the Sierra de Guadarrama. Separately the school speaks of an inclusion plan for children with special educational needs and for families in difficulty.

Admissions The school admits to Infantil, Primaria and Secundaria through an open day and registration by the form on the site; the latest open day for the 2026-2027 school year took place on Sunday 1 March. The school publishes no requirements for applicants, no documents, deadlines or number of places; separately it mentions a two-week settling-in period in Infantil.
Stages and year groups Grades Infantil - Primaria - Secundaria (ESO). Three stages: Infantil, Primaria and Secundaria. Infantil and Primaria have run since 2017, Secundaria the school opened in September 2025. In Infantil children are grouped by stage of development with a tutor teacher, in Primaria each group has two lead teachers, part of the week children work in their base group, part in interest groups, and once a week the whole stage meets. The curriculum follows the Spanish LOMLOE law, and at the secondary stage the school combines it with the Cambridge curriculum and IGCSE. How many classes there are and how many children are in a group, the school does not say.

NEASCNew England Association of Schools and Colleges
An American accreditation working since 1885. For international schools it uses an approach where the visitors look first at live lessons rather than at folders of paperwork: the team works in the school for about a week. It is the only one here whose public directory honestly separates accredited schools from candidates.
What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

The number of teachers the school does not give. About the staff it writes that all teachers, besides a university education, have training in humanistic psychotherapy (active listening, non-violent communication, support of emotional development), in child Gestalt and an internal El Pez Luna course on respectful accompaniment; many are Montessori guides or specialists in creative education, some have completed full training with a master's degree in Aucouturier psychomotricity, and all are trained in the subject of child sexuality. In Primaria each group has two teachers.
Safety and wellbeing from the school's official website
The school says nothing on its website about security, medical care or pupil support.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
