Linz International School Auhof (LISA) is the English-language branch of the public Europagymnasium Auhof in Linz: "Founded in 1992, the LISA is one of three branches of the Europagymnasium Auhof in Linz". The school stresses that it is "publicly run and not a private school", so the IB programme is open "regardless of their parents' financial situation". About 450 students aged 10 to 18, more than 30 languages spoken on campus. The school has offered the IB Diploma Programme since 1997, the first IB exams were taken in May 2000, and more than 900 graduates have earned the diploma since. Most students also take the Austrian final exam, the Reifeprüfung (Matura). Lessons are in English: "English is the language of instruction in all subjects"; in Grade 5 teachers use both English and German, and there is a large German as a Foreign Language department for children without German.

About the fees The school is public ("publicly run and not a private school"); the website names no tuition as such, but the compulsory membership contribution to the LISA Unterstützungsverein for the 2026-2027 school year is 700 EUR a year (600 EUR for a second child), and 2800 EUR a year in the LISA Academy programme.
Admissions The school admits children from Austrian primary schools and international students. For Grade 5 (1. Klasse AHS) families register at the Europagymnasium office with the Grade 3 and Grade 4 primary school reports and the residence registration form (Meldezettel) of parents and child; then a one-hour reading and writing check in German or English (Language Check) and an interview with parents and child. For the 2026-2027 school year all Grade 5 places are already filled. Children studying abroad apply through the school's online portal and go through a separate admission in July. Under the admission policy "Students with non-Austrian report cards must undergo the same procedure", with more weight on the language test and interviews; international students must know English well enough to follow lessons, and placement tests in English and Mathematics are possible. Entry is possible into almost every class from Grade 5; the upper school (Grade 9) takes students after Grade 4 of a Gymnasium or a middle school with transfer eligibility, after placement tests in English and Mathematics and an interview; there is no direct entry into the IB in Grade 11, except the LISA Academy programme for students who cannot take the Matura because of German, which cannot be joined after the first IB year has started.
Stages and year groups A Gymnasium from Grade 5 to Grade 12 (Year 1-8, ages 10-18). In Grades 11-12 students prepare for both the Austrian "Österreichische Reifeprüfung" (AHS-Reifeprüfung, Matura) and the "International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB DP)"; the IB English exam counts as the written Matura and the Extended Essay as the VWA (pre-scientific paper). Students who cannot take the Matura because of German can follow the LISA Academy Programme, the full IB Diploma only, in the last two years. There is no separate IB class: LISA as a whole is the English-language branch (Schulzweig) of the Europagymnasium Auhof.

What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

National programme

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.

What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
