Los Sauces La Moraleja is the network's site in the north of Madrid, in La Moraleja (the municipality of Alcobendas), and it is the only one of the four schools in this batch that takes children from nought years old. Its provision covers every non-university stage, from the nursery to the baccalaureate. Los Sauces is a network of private bilingual schools with a single website for all its sites; the fees, programmes and services are described in general terms, and one site is told from another by address, entry age and capacity. Teaching is bilingual, Spanish and English, and the school puts three things forward: languages and study abroad, emotional intelligence and education in values, and sport. The main thing a parent needs to know: the network does not yet hold the IB Diploma. Its own international programmes page says plainly: «El Colegio Los Sauces es un colegio de categoría solicitante* for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme y desea obtener la autorización para ser un Colegio del Mundo del IB», and the organisation's own caveat stands there too, that applicant status does not guarantee authorisation.

Admissions The group does not set out a general admission procedure for this campus: it asks new families to leave a request through its "information and visits for new pupils" form or to call, and invites them to see the school. Only admission to the IB Diploma Programme, for which the group has applied as a candidate school, is described in detail. For its own pupils the programme coordinator holds a personal interview and takes into account the teachers' assessment, English at B1 level or above and the results of careers guidance tests. New external applicants have an interview with the coordinator, a check of their documents and tests in Spanish (text analysis and grammar), mathematics and English, must show English at B1 or higher and bring certified marks for the fourth year of ESO from their previous school; the school reserves the right to set further tests. The group says nothing specific about foreigners or citizenship; of itself it writes that equal access is open regardless of race, sex or religion.
Stages and year groups Grades from 0 years to the baccalaureate. The school writes «desde 0 años hasta Bachillerato» and «una oferta educativa completa que abarca todos los niveles de enseñanza no universitaria». It gives no year-by-year list of grades and no timetable.

What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

National programme

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.

What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

Los Saucesschool network

Los Sauces (Los Sauces Educational Institution) is a private school network that traces its history to October 1974, when it opened as a pre-school in Colonia El Viso, Madrid. The first Los Sauces private school opened in September 1981 in La Moraleja (Madrid), followed by the Torrelodones and Pontevedra schools in September 1991, Dublin in May 1992 and Vigo in September 1994. The site now lists five schools: four in Spain (La Moraleja, Torrelodones, Pontevedra, Vigo) and one in Ireland (Dublin). The network describes itself as non-denominational, apolitical and pluralist. It gives its experience differently on its own pages: "more than 40 years" on the Spanish page and "almost 40 years" on the English one. The network's site is colegiolossauces.com.

What this means for this school. The network owns or operates the school. Its accreditation and programme authorisation the school obtains separately, in its own name.

Exams and destinations from the school's official website

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

Campus: A site in La Moraleja in the north of Madrid; the school calls the location privileged and announces new Infantil-stage rooms on a page of its own. The facilities page gives no list of features - its content is drawn by a script.
Summer camp: the school runs its own camp; whether it takes children from outside is not stated on the website
In summer the La Moraleja campus runs four programmes. A basketball camp for children from 6 to 14 lasts two weeks in July, with a full basketball kit and pool sessions. English House is a summer club in English for children from 3 to 12, in July. Holiday Camp for children from 3 to 12 in July offers games, outings, swimming and art workshops. There are also July revision courses for primary, secondary and bachillerato pupils, preparing for the September resits or for the next year. Beyond this the group runs summer programmes on its other campuses, including language trips to Dublin for children from 10 to 17 with host family stays. The school publishes no prices for its summer programmes.

Teaching staff

The school publishes neither the number of its teachers nor their qualifications.

Safety and wellbeing from the school's official website

Reviews

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
