The Pierre Deschamps lycée stands not in Alicante itself but in El Campello, in a quiet residential district right by the sea, and it occupies twenty hectares. The school has run since 1962, has belonged to the Mission laïque française network since 1972 and is homologated by the AEFE from the youngest kindergarten level to the final year; its courses are approved by both the French and the Spanish ministry. The central thing about it is three languages at once and from the very start: from the age of two a child hears French, Spanish and English, there are always two adults in the room - a teacher and an educator - and the child may speak to either in their own language. Later the languages are not confined to language lessons: PE, geometry and art are taught in English or Spanish (the school calls this the EMILE approach), and the goal by graduation is C1 in all three plus the official DELF, DELE and Cambridge certificates. The senior stage adds German or Latin and mathematics in English. The leaving document is the French baccalauréat: the school prepares for it, for the French brevet and for the Spanish selectividad, and in the class of 2025-2026 all 108 pupils passed the baccalauréat and all 89 the brevet. The campus covers nearly everything the school needs: a covered sports pavilion, a covered swimming pool, an athletics track, basketball courts, a climbing wall, physics and science laboratories, computer rooms, a technology workshop, a CDI holding more than twenty thousand items, separate libraries for each stage and its own dining hall for each stage. Swimming is part of the curriculum from the age of five.

About the fees The school publishes its fees itself, as annual amounts for the 2026-2027 school year: kindergarten (maternelle) and primary (CP - CM2) - 6520 euros, collège (6e - 3e) - 7323 euros, lycée (2nde - terminale) - 7869 euros. The amounts for tuition, the canteen and after-school care are annual; the fees for new admission and re-enrolment are paid once a year.
Admissions The school does not set out its admissions procedure on the site: the registration page offers only two actions - book an open day or ask for a separate visit or video call through a form - and names no documents, deadlines or entrance tests. It does give the age range: it takes children from two into TPS and carries them to eighteen. Command of the languages is no obstacle by the design of the programme: in the kindergarten there are always two adults in the class, a teacher and an educator, and a child may speak to either in Spanish or French. The school does take foreign pupils: by its own account it has about 1500 pupils of more than 25 nationalities, and teaching is in three languages from the very start. For pupils not from the French system the admissions committee may, after studying the file, set a level test, which costs 120 euros; the school names no other requirements for foreign pupils, such as homologation of documents or knowledge of French or Spanish.
Stages and year groups Grades TPS from age 2 - final year, age 18. The stages run straight through. The kindergarten is four levels of one cycle: TPS from two, PS from three, MS from four, GS from five, with mixed-age classes. The primary school is two cycles: grades 1 to 3 and grades 4 to 6, 26 hours a week. The middle stage is cycle 4, grades 6 to 8 by the French count, and it ends with the French brevet (DNB). The senior stage is three years: seconde, which the school calls the fourth year of ESO, and two years of bachillerato, in which a student picks three specialist subjects. The weekly load in the kindergarten and the primary school is 26 hours, Monday to Friday.

What stands behind each entry

AEFEAgency for French Education Abroad

It runs the network of French schools worldwide, while the accreditation itself, the homologation, is granted by the French education ministry and inspected by French state inspectors. A leaver from a homologated school moves into a school in France without an entrance examination. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

French programme

The state programme of France. A school is homologated by the French ministry of education, and a leaver may move into a school in France without entrance tests. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.

What this means for this school. Which year groups of this school are covered by homologation - only the primary ones, or all the way to the final year - is not stated here. The difference matters: it decides whether the school takes a child through to the French baccalaureate or hands them on to another school halfway.

Mission laïque françaiseschool network

Mission laïque française (MLF) is a French non-profit association founded in 1902; its school network is called Réseau mlfmonde. The network gives different figures on its own pages - 108 schools in 38 countries on some, 107 schools in 37 countries on another, with more than 61,000 students in both cases - and we quote both. In Spain the network lists 10 lycées, in Alicante, Murcia, Palma, Reus, Seville, Telde (Gran Canaria), Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Valladolid, Villanueva de la Cañada (Madrid) and Zaragoza. In a notice dated 21 September 2026, MLF writes that since 1 September 2026 the day-to-day management of its Spanish schools has been entrusted to the association AFLEC-GEE under a management mandate, refers to 9 schools, and says the legal transfer of each will be completed by 31 July 2028 at the latest. The notice does not say which of the ten schools is not among the nine. The network's site is mlfmonde.org.

What this means for this school. The network owns or operates the school. Its accreditation and programme authorisation the school obtains separately, in its own name.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
