The lycée began in 1907 as the Société de l'École Française de Lisbonne, moved to Pátio do Tijolo in 1917, and has stood on its present site on Avenida Duarte Pacheco since November 1952; it is named after Charles Lepierre, a chemist and pupil of Pierre Curie who taught in Portuguese universities for 46 years. Today it holds more than two thousand pupils, about 2070, from the youngest nursery group to the final year, and 280 staff. The lycée belongs to the AEFE network and states plainly that it is one of the 68 establishments in direct management: such establishments work as decentralised services of the agency, with their own authorising officer and their own accountant, and their budgets are consolidated into the agency's overall budget. The language of lessons is French: the site, the pages for parents and pupils, the timetable and the enrolment procedure are written in French, and teaching follows the curriculum of the French ministry of national education. The stages are nursery from age 3, elementary school from CP to CM2, collège from 6e to 3e and lycée from 2nde to Terminale. Besides the general route there are a Portuguese international section, a Portuguese European section and an English European section, and in 2nde there are visual arts, theatre, Latin, Ancient Greek, philosophy and social and economic sciences in English, an orchestra and a choir. Languages come with certifications: Portuguese with TEJO, DEPLE, DIPLE and DAPLE through CAPLE, English with the ev@lang test in 3e and a language attestation in the final year, German from 5e with Goethe-Institut examinations at A2 and B1 in 2nde and at B2 and C1 in the final year, Latin from the 8th or 9th year with the European ELEX and ECCL examination. There is a school exchange with the Karlsgymnasium in Munich and ADN-AEFE exchanges for 2nde. Among the services are an infirmary, a school psychologist, a student life office, libraries and documentation centres, a school canteen, a sports association and after-school care.

About the fees Annual fees for 2026-27 are split by nationality. For French, Portuguese and European Union citizens: 6098 EUR in nursery and elementary school, 6384 in collège, 7609 in lycée. For other nationalities: 6776, 7062 and 8286 EUR respectively. Payment is in three parts by term, September-December, January-March, April-June, the first part being the largest.
Admissions The lycée takes children of different nationalities and divides them plainly in its fees: one rate for French, Portuguese and European Union citizens, another and higher one for all other nationalities. At the same time the AEFE mission gives priority to the children of French nationals living outside France, and the admission decision is taken on that mission and on the lycée's limited capacity. Enrolment goes through a personal account on the Eduka platform: an account is created, the child's details are filled in, the mandatory documents are attached, and after the commission's review the decision arrives by email; the place must be secured within seven days by paying the first fees. Nursery entry goes by year of birth: the youngest group takes children born three years before the start of the school year, the middle group four, the oldest five.
Stages and year groups Grades Maternelle (PS, MS, GS), Élémentaire (CP - CM2), Collège (6e - 3e), Lycée (2nde - Terminale). Stages run from nursery at age 3 through elementary school from CP to CM2 and collège from 6e to 3e to the lycée from 2nde to Terminale. After 3e the routes open are the general and technological 2nde, the professional 2nde and the first year of a CAP. There are four sections in the upper stage: general, English European, Portuguese European and Portuguese international, the last starting in 2nde.
