Lycée français Jean-Monnet is a French school of the AEFE network under the agency's direct management (établissement en gestion directe), established in Brussels since 1907. It follows the official French curriculum from the youngest kindergarten class to the final Terminale year and is itself an exam centre for the DNB and the Baccalauréat. It has more than 2650 students of over 50 nationalities on two sites in the Uccle municipality: the kindergarten on chaussée d'Alsemberg and the main campus with the elementary school, collège and lycée on avenue du Lycée français. Lessons are taught in French: the school follows the French curriculum and offers French as a foreign language (FLE) from 6ème to 2nde for children with another mother tongue; the website has no separate statement on the language of instruction. Languages are a strength: in kindergarten children choose English, German or Dutch, learnt by immersion every other day; the elementary school has classes with equal hours in English and French (parité horaire); the collège and lycée have British and German international sections, a European section in English and the French-Spanish Bachibac. The school teaches six modern languages in all, and after class embassies offer free courses in Arabic, Turkish and Modern Greek. An école inclusive service supports children with special needs, and school coaching helps those who have lost motivation. A new building with an auditorium and a new guard post is under construction at the campus entrance.

About the fees Annual tuition for the 2026-2027 school year: kindergarten 8890 euros, elementary 8350, collège 10140, lycée 11240 euros. The international section, BFI or Bachibac adds 600 euros a year, parité horaire classes 160, the CHAMThé music and theatre class 850 euros. Fees are paid by term (40 percent in the first term and 30 in each of the second and third) or monthly. The discount is 5 percent for the second child, 25 for the third and 50 for the fourth and further children. French families registered with the consulate may receive means-tested AEFE scholarships; there is also a solidarity fund.
Admissions The school states that it "accueille les enfants de toutes nationalités" (welcomes children of all nationalities), and when asked whether a child must be French it replies that it has children of more than 60 nationalities; priority is given to children coming from a French school in France or abroad. Applications are made online through Skolengo; the campaign opens in January and applying is free. Required are the child's full birth certificate, the parents' identity documents, report cards for the previous and current year, a school certificate and an exeat. The school notifies families of places by email from April; if a year group is full the application goes on a waiting list and places are allocated as they become free. Children can join at any stage of schooling and sometimes during the year, decided case by case. Places in the international sections and parité horaire classes are limited and depend on a test or a review of the file; the Bachibac requires Spanish at B1 level. Enrolment is confirmed once the file is complete and the first-enrolment fee has been paid.
Stages and year groups Grades TPS - Terminale. Four stages of the French system: école maternelle (TPS, PS, MS, GS), école élémentaire (CP-CM2), collège (6ème-3ème, ending with the Diplôme National du Brevet, with the option internationale for the international sections) and lycée (2nde-Terminale, Baccalauréat). The lycée offers five routes: the standard bac, the section européenne (one subject taught in English, chosen from four), the Bachibac (the French Baccalauréat together with the Spanish Bachillerato), the Baccalauréat Français International (BFI) in the British bilingual section and the BFI in the trilingual German-English section. Students of the British section sit IGCSE English Language and English Literature in 2nde. The school prepares students for language certificates in German, English, Spanish and Dutch, including DELE, IELTS, Cambridge Key and Preliminary for Schools. There is no IB programme on the website.

What stands behind each entry

AEFEAgency for French Education Abroad

It runs the network of French schools worldwide, while the accreditation itself, the homologation, is granted by the French education ministry and inspected by French state inspectors. A leaver from a homologated school moves into a school in France without an entrance examination. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.

What the badge means for this school. The school has been through this organisation's accreditation. It was judged as a whole: governance, safeguarding, staff, premises, teaching. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it.

PASCHSchools: Partners for the Future, an initiative of the German foreign ministry

More than two thousand schools in about 120 countries. A school cannot apply for itself: participants are chosen by German agencies in agreement with the embassy. Very different schools sit under one mark - full German schools abroad, and ordinary national schools that simply teach German well.

What the badge means for this school. The school belongs to a German support programme. By itself the mark means neither a German curriculum nor the right to award a German certificate: of the two thousand PASCH schools, about seventeen hundred hold no such right. Look for a ZfA status next to it - that is the one that is about this. The entry is confirmed in the organisation's open directory.

French programme

The state programme of France. A school is homologated by the French ministry of education, and a leaver may move into a school in France without entrance tests. Homologation is granted stage by stage, so it sometimes covers only part of the year groups.

What this means for this school. Which year groups of this school are covered by homologation - only the primary ones, or all the way to the final year - is not stated here. The difference matters: it decides whether the school takes a child through to the French baccalaureate or hands them on to another school halfway.

Exams and destinations from the school's official website

Exam results Exam results for 2026. Baccalauréat: all candidates passed, 95 percent obtained a distinction (mention) and 28 students received the jury's congratulations; by track: general bac 62 percent of the year group, British BFI 14, European section 12, Bachibac 7, German-English BFI 5. Brevet: the same share of distinctions, 46 students received the jury's congratulations for an average above 18 out of 20, and almost half of the international-section students also obtained the DNBI.

Collège and lycée students carry a personal photo badge without which they cannot enter the building. The health service runs classroom sessions on sexuality, hygiene, first aid and cyberbullying. In the elementary school a pupil-life officer looks after the class climate; in the collège and lycée conseillers principaux d'éducation and their assistants do so. A pôle ressource école inclusive with two teachers, a nurse and a coordinator supports students with special educational needs.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
