Madrid Montessori School is a small American Montessori school in the El Viso district of Madrid for children from one and a half to 12 years. It was founded in 2006 by twelve families, starting with one classroom in Chamberí; in 2009 the school moved to El Viso, and since September 2016 all programmes have been gathered in one building on Genil street. The school has been accredited by the American Middle States Association since 2012, re-accredited in 2019 for seven years, and is recognised by the Madrid education department. All guides hold AMI diplomas, and the school follows AMI principles: mixed-age classes, materials on low shelves, uninterrupted work cycles of 2.5-3 hours. In the nursery two adults each speak their own language, Spanish and English; in the Casa de Niños there is gradual immersion in English; in primary the main language of instruction is English, and Spanish language, history and culture are taught separately, so that by 12 children become bilingual. In primary there are no textbooks and no subject timetable: children plan their own time, research topics and organise their own outings. Lunches are vegetarian from organic produce, bread is baked every day, and children look after the vegetable garden. The school has a psychologist and a wellbeing coordinator.

About the fees The school publishes its fees on its site, monthly for 10 months from September to June: for the 2026-2027 school year, the half-day nursery (8:45-13:00) 920 euros a month, the extended day 1145, Casa de Niños (8:45-15:30) 1145, primary school (8:30-15:15) 1165; for 2025-2026 it was 885, 1100, 1100 and 1120 euros. The fee includes fruit, snacks and a vegetarian lunch, and in the nursery on the extended day, an afternoon nap.
Admissions Admission goes in four steps: an open day by booking, an application with a non-refundable fee of 150 euros for processing, a visit to the school and an interview with the director, and notification of a place - from 15 March, if there are free places. Applications are accepted all year round, and applying does not guarantee a place. The school is small, there are few places each year, and the main criterion is the family's commitment to go through the whole programme of the school with the child. The school writes that it has many international families, so places sometimes become free during the year; a waiting list is kept for each class.
Stages and year groups Grades Comunidad Infantil (18 months) - Primaria (12 years). Three Montessori stages: Comunidad Infantil from 18 months to 3 years (from 8:45 to 13:00, optionally a nap at school and pick-up at 15:30 from Monday to Thursday), Casa de los Niños from 3 to 6 years (from 8:45 to 15:30) with five areas - practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics and culture, and Primaria from 6 to 12 years (from 8:30 to 15:15), built on the five Montessori "great stories", with research projects and outings that children organise themselves. Classes are of mixed ages, and each class has its own name - El Encinar, El Pinar, El Hayedo.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
