Osted Efterskole is a private Danish efterskole, a boarding school, in the village of Osted near Lejre in central Zealand, for students in grades 9 and 10. It belongs to the combined school OSTED together with Osted Friskole and the Fristedet kindergarten: the school opened as a friskole in 1917, and the boarding efterskole started in November 1918. The school follows the Grundtvig and Kold tradition and rests on the Danish national church, but it does not preach and is open to everyone. In 2026-2027 it has 148 students. The core programme is Danish: grade 9 and the regular grade 10 take the folkeskole leaving exams (FP9 and FP10), and Projekt 10 is an exam-free grade 10 built on project work. The University of Cambridge has approved the school to teach and examine IGCSE: in the Cambridge 10 class three subjects are taught in English and can end with Cambridge IGCSE exams, and grade 9 students can opt for English at Cambridge level. Beyond lessons students choose a profile line (music, film, the Gourmet cooking line, art, sport, or Global Iværksætter with a trip to Nepal with Folkekirkens Nødhjælp) and electives, all sing in the school choir, and during the year they go to a start-up camp, skiing in Idre Fjäll in Sweden and a closing camp.

About the fees An efterskole charges one combined fee for teaching, accommodation, meals, shared teaching materials, excursions and camps. For 2026-2027 the weekly price is 3025 DKK for 42 weeks, that is 127050 DKK for the year, paid in 11 instalments. The school states that all its students receive the income-based state subsidy and refers families to the efterskole association's calculator for their own share. Paid separately: the Global Iværksætter line trip (about 16000 DKK plus vaccinations), Cambridge IGCSE exams (about 850 DKK per exam, 2550 DKK for three exams) and individual music lessons. Leaving early costs 4 weeks' fees, 12100 DKK, without state subsidy. Families can apply for local support and help from the school's fund.
Admissions Before applying, the student and parents must visit the school for a tour; this applies to all students and all school years. If the chosen line is full, students can join the waiting list free of charge. Once the school confirms a final place, an enrolment fee of 2500 DKK is invoiced; after it is paid the student is enrolled and the registration is binding. The school then invites the student to a welcome interview on a weekday evening in December or January before the start. The school keeps 5 places for students with physical disabilities, including wheelchair users, and offers limited special support; students with major learning difficulties are referred to special efterskoler. Places for 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 are full with waiting lists; some places are open from 2028-2029, and all lines have places from 2030-2031.
Stages and year groups Grades 9-10. An efterskole for grades 9 and 10 with a 42-week school year (2026-2027: from 9 August 2026 to 26 June 2027). Four tracks. Regular grade 10: FP10 exams in Danish, mathematics and English, with German or French and physics/chemistry as maintenance subjects. Cambridge 10: besides the Danish subjects three subjects are taught in English - English as a second language, mathematics and Global Perspectives; the 2026-2027 curriculum lists Cambridge IGCSE exams in English, Mathematics and Global Perspectives plus FP10 exams in Danish, mathematics and English; the same plan and another page of the site also name German as a foreign language among the Cambridge subjects. The IGCSE exams are optional, about 850 DKK each. Projekt 10: an exam-free grade 10 without marks, built on project work; students apply onward with their grade 9 results. About 35 lessons a week including lines and electives, plus an evening study hour Monday to Thursday. The school is exempt from exams in Christian studies and history.

What stands behind each entry

CambridgeCambridge International Education

Part of the University of Cambridge. It allows a school to teach the Cambridge programmes and to enter pupils for the exams. There are four stages and they are authorised separately: primary, lower secondary, IGCSE and A Level. If the stages are known they are named in the line below; if that line is missing, the school does not publish them, and the Cambridge registry does not show stages either - it gives only the name of the centre, the country and whether private candidates are accepted. Cambridge calls what it does registration rather than accreditation, and the network holds about ten thousand schools.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: IGCSE (ages 14-16). IGCSE means exams at around Year 10 or 11, the British counterpart of a lower secondary leaving certificate.

National programme

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.

What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

The school publishes nothing about where its leavers go: no share going on to university, no exam results, no list of universities.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
