Rudbecksgymnasiet is a municipal upper secondary school (gymnasieskola) in central Örebro, one of the municipality's five upper secondary schools. Its history begins in 1857, when the technical school Örebro Tekniska Elementarskola opened on 5 October; in 1901 it moved into a new building, and with the 1971 reform it became a general upper secondary school. Today about 1100 students aged 16-19 attend. The school runs Swedish national programmes in Swedish (Business Management and Economics, Natural Science, Social Science, Business and Administration, Health and Social Care, introductory programmes), the national upper secondary school for deaf and hard of hearing students (Riksgymnasiet för döva och hörselskadade), and a three-year IB programme: a preparatory PreDP year following Swedish syllabuses but taught in English, and two years of the IB Diploma Programme. Original: 'På IB-programmet är all undervisning på engelska' (on the IB programme all teaching is in English). The school cooperates with Örebro University, runs exchanges with schools and universities in Spain, Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands and China, has been an Amnesty International partner school since 2018 and a certified teacher training practice school since 2017.

About the fees Tuition is free: this is a municipal upper secondary school of Örebro municipality, and the website mentions no tuition fees anywhere; the school writes: 'När du väljer en kommunal gymnasieskola får du som elev en egen dator eller surfplatta till ditt skolarbete under dina tre år på skolan' (when you choose a municipal upper secondary school you get your own computer or tablet for your schoolwork for all three years). Students over 16 receive the state study grant (studiebidrag) from CSN, and those living in Örebro municipality more than 6 kilometres from school get a free bus pass.
Admissions Admission to the Swedish programmes and to the first, preparatory IB year (PreDP) is through the county's common upper secondary admissions (Gymnasieantagningen) based on compulsory school grades, with the same requirements as for the Natural Science and Social Science programmes. Applicants with a foreign education or equivalent knowledge can apply directly to the second year, the IB Diploma Programme: no Swedish is required ('Här finns det inga krav på färdigheter i det svenska språket'), the application is made via the school's form by 1 April, followed by entrance examinations set by the school and an interview with the applicant and parents, in which the student presents themselves in English. If places are limited, priority goes to residents of the Örebro region with a right to upper secondary education, then to those with a right to reside in Sweden (Scandinavian residents, EU citizens with right of residence), and to children of parents on work assignment in the region; for them the deadline is extended to 31 July with documentation from the employer. The school describes itself as 'an open, co-educational and State-funded school that provide for the citizens of the area' that can also 'cater for temporary students'; applicants under 18 need a registered parent or guardian in the region. The final decision is made by the Head of School.
Stages and year groups Grades 10-12 (gymnasieskola, årskurs 1-3). Three-year gymnasieskola. National programmes in Swedish leading to the gymnasieexamen: Ekonomiprogrammet, Naturvetenskapsprogrammet, Samhällsvetenskapsprogrammet, Försäljnings- och serviceprogrammet, Vård- och omsorgsprogrammet, introductory programmes (Introduktionsprogram) and Riksgymnasiet för döva och hörselskadade. The IB programme lasts three years: the first PreDP year follows Swedish syllabuses in English with Swedish grades F-A, then two years of the IB Diploma Programme (three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects plus TOK, CAS and the Extended Essay); graduates receive both the gymnasieexamen and the IB Diploma. The school does not mention any other IB programmes (PYP, MYP, CP).

What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: DP (ages 16-19). DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

National programme

The state school programme of the country the school stands in: it is set by that country's ministry of education, which also licenses the school and awards the leaving certificate. That certificate is used for entry to local universities, and abroad it is matched to the local one.

What this means for this school. This entry does not count towards the score, and that is deliberate. Every lawful school in a country works to the national programme, so on its own it tells one school apart from no other - unlike the French, German or Russian programmes, which are carried abroad and confirmed by the register of their organisation. We show it because a parent needs to know what programme their child is taught and what certificate the child will get. Counting it would lift the whole ranking at once and still tell nobody apart.

Exam results According to the IB programme quality report for the 2025-2026 school year, 85% of Diploma Programme graduates met the requirements and received the diploma ('I år var denna andel 85 %'); three students will retake exams next year. In the preparatory PreDP year the share of failing grades fell from 16% to 9%, and the grade average rose from 12,2 to 13,9. The school does not publish an average IB score.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
