World International School of Torino (WINS) is a private international day and boarding school on the northern edge of Torino for children aged 2.5 to 18. It was founded in 2017 by Paolo Pietro Formiga, from a family that has opened international schools in Italy since 1958. The school runs all three International Baccalaureate programmes: the PYP for early years and primary, the MYP for grades 6-10 and the Diploma Programme for grades 11-12. Teaching is in English, the primary language of instruction for all subjects; Italian is taught following the national curriculum for native speakers and as a second language for international students, and German and Spanish as foreign languages. The school describes itself as an international school on Italian territory recognised by the Ministry of Education; on request it prepares students for the idoneità exam at the end of lower secondary to move into the Italian system. The 8500 square metre campus has a pool and an 86-place boarding house for students from age 13. Recently the school opened a five-year Italian sports liceo with a scientific maturità for young athletes and online study for the upper grades.

Admissions The school is non-selective and welcomes students of different nationalities; applications are accepted all year subject to places, through an online admissions platform. Families first book a meeting with the admissions team. Required: passport or ID, a photograph, the last two report cards, a reference from the previous school including behaviour records, a health form and, if relevant, special educational needs documentation. Current students and their siblings re-enrol early, in December and January; for others places open in December for Nursery and in February for all grades. When relocating to Torino, international students get priority regardless of their English level, followed by native English speakers and bilingual children. No English is needed for Early Years and Transition; English is assessed from grade 4 and with Cambridge tests from grade 6; grade 6 accepts A2, and students with weak English take paid additional EAL classes. In middle school there may be an English and Mathematics placement test and an interview with the principal. The Diploma Programme requires evidence of English, a Mathematics test or results, an orientation with the coordinator and completion of the MYP or equivalent schooling. Conditions for all: conduct at least satisfactory and attendance of at least 75%. Applicants abroad can do the interview and tests online.
Stages and year groups Grades Nursery, Pre-K, Kindergarten, Transition, 1-12. The full International Baccalaureate: Early Years (Nursery from 2.5, Pre-K, Kindergarten) and the PYP (Transition and grades 1-5, ages 5-11); the MYP for grades 6-10 (ages 11-16), with MYP e-Assessment in 4 subjects in grade 10; the Diploma Programme for grades 11-12 (ages 16-18), recognised by the Ministry of Education as equivalent to the Italian diploma. In the DP: Italian and English as Language A, English, Spanish and German as Language B, and self-taught languages; the school is an AFEC centre for athletes, allowing the DP over 3 years. Italian is taught within IB requirements: following the national curriculum for native speakers and as a second language; in lower secondary there is preparation for the first-cycle esame di Stato (idoneità exam on request). Separately there is a five-year Liceo Scientifico Sportivo (LSS by WINS) with the Italian scientific maturità and an online school for grades 9-12 with an American programme or the IB DP in partnership with an external online school. The school prepares students for Cambridge English, Trinity, SAT, CILS, DELE and SIELE exams.

What stands behind each entry

IBInternational Baccalaureate

A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.

What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: PYP (ages 3-12), MYP (ages 11-16), DP (ages 16-19). PYP is the primary stage, ages 3 to 12. It is not a set of subjects but a frame for the whole school: learning is built around lines of inquiry, and there are no exams at the end. MYP is the middle stage, ages 11 to 16. There are no exams here either; at the end an optional electronic assessment of pupils' work is possible. DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

"Scored on disclosed data" stands where we count only what the school has written about itself on its own site: exams and destinations, safety and wellbeing, teaching staff, facilities, clubs and activities. A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives. The full methodology →
