Aka Koleji belongs to Aka Eğitim Kurumları, founded by the Kadıoğlu family; the founder Ulvi Halim Kadıoğlu opens the school's own account of itself with the line that education is the art of joining knowledge to character. On the Bahçelievler site in Istanbul the school runs four consecutive stages, from kindergarten through primary and middle school to high school, and describes itself as an institution that brings together knowledge, ethics and technology. Beyond the national curriculum it names the IB Diploma Programme, its own observatory and work with the Turkish Astronomical Society, Erasmus, the Eco-Schools programme, the GEMUN model United Nations and mathematics olympiads.
