A state Anatolian high school in the Fatih district of Istanbul and the direct successor of Darulmaarif, the first school of the Ottoman system built to a European school plan: the building was endowed by Bezmialem Valide Sultan and teaching began there in 1850. By the school's own figures it has 718 students, 49 teachers and 33 classrooms, and it runs a full school day. The foreign languages are German and English, and the German stream leads to the DSD German language diploma. The school publishes its own titles - the magazine Yokus Yukari, the German-language Cal Kurier, the chemistry magazine CALKimya and the newspaper BABIALI. Among its projects the school names the CERN Beamline for Schools competition, where its team was one of five winners out of 508 entries from 72 countries, a win in the Yesilay debating tournament and a game design contest. There is a boarding house at the school.

About the fees Tuition is free: this is a state high school of the Turkish Ministry of National Education. The school does not publish the cost of boarding or of school transport.
Admissions Admission goes by the state LGS examination. There are 120 places for the year, and the school publishes its own entry band: a floor score of 493.9643 and a ceiling of 500.0000, which means it takes from the very top of the list. Advanced Placement: American advanced courses for the senior years. The exam for a course is set and marked by the College Board, not by the school. A good result is counted by American universities as a first-year course already passed, which saves a student time and money.
