Özel Sezin Okulu is one of the oldest private schools in Istanbul: it was founded in 1963 by Sabahat Sezin and saw its first graduates in 1970. In 1998 the school moved from Erenköy to Çekmeköy, taking with it the bust of Atatürk for which Sabahat Sezin had held a competition among sculptors in 1964; the competition was won by Professor Hüseyin Gezer, and students still gather in front of that bust. The school states its teaching philosophy in the words of its founder: there is certainly a field in which every child is gifted. Its stated aim is to help each child find that field and grow in it, so as to be of use to themselves and to the world. A second formula of hers holds that a student of any age should be seen, and treated, as a grown-up of the future. One address in Çekmeköy holds the kindergarten class, the primary and middle school and the high school.
