Özel Taş is a primary and middle school in Bakırköy in Istanbul, opened in 1991 in a restored historic building. The campus consists of three main buildings together with workshops, a sports hall and meeting rooms. The first of those buildings was put up by the French in 1884; it is a listed monument of the second degree and has served in turn as a French guard house, a convent school attached to the church of St George, a Greek middle school and a soup kitchen, and from 1928 to 1968 it was the only central middle school for Bakırköy, Yeşilköy and Yeşilyurt. In 1991 the actor Tarık Akan restored the building and a private primary school opened inside it; since 1998 the school has held ilköğretim status. It has taught the IB Primary Years Programme since 2012, describes itself through inquiry-based learning and intercultural awareness, and on the English version of its site names forty-three student clubs.
