Agora Madrid International School is a private bilingual all-through school, from nursery at 0 years to the Baccalaureate, in the El Bosque residential area of Villaviciosa de Odón near Madrid. It was founded in 1981 by a group of families and educators, and since 2006 it has belonged to the international education group Globeducate and to the family of Agora schools in Spain. Since 2015 the school has offered the IB Diploma; it describes its primary stage as authorised for the IB PYP and its secondary stage as a candidate for the MYP. English is the school's main language: most subjects are taught in English, and in primary only Spanish language and mathematics are taught in Spanish. Chinese begins at age three, and from the sixth year of primary pupils choose German or French. The school is an official music conservatory (Fabordón), and from the first year of primary all children learn the violin. A particular point of pride is the IB Diploma specialised in Performing Arts and Film, run together with the Sing and Dance Project Víctor Ullate Roche: more than 13 hours of arts a week, its own black box, cinema and studio. The school accepts pupils from other countries: by its own account, children from more than 20 countries study there. Fees are not on the website and are provided on request.

Admissions The school accepts international pupils and states directly that it helps them settle in: it offers immersion in the languages of instruction, English and Spanish, at native or learner level, and a dedicated International Home Room service; it says most pupils are local, but the number of international families, Spanish families returning from abroad and binational couples is growing, and children from more than 20 countries study at the school. The procedure: a request for information through the form or by telephone, an on-site or virtual visit, a formal application, admission tests by stage, and after passing them an enrolment form and a set of documents. For the IB Diploma specialised in Performing Arts and Film, pupils aged 15-17 are taken after an interview and an artistic audition, where, according to the school, motivation rather than technique is assessed.
Stages and year groups Grades nursery from 0 years - 2º Bachillerato (18 years). Nursery is divided into two stages: up to 2 years activities are only in English, and from 3 years the bilingual programme begins, with most activities in English and reading and writing in Spanish. Primary follows the IB PYP, and all subjects except Spanish language and mathematics are taught in English; the sixth year of primary already belongs to the secondary stage and is taught by its teachers. Secondary (ESO) is a candidate for the IB MYP, and English is taught at two levels. In the Baccalaureate pupils choose the Spanish Bachillerato or the IB Diploma, including the one specialised in Performing Arts and Film. Most classes have 20-25 pupils, fewer in nursery and in elective courses.

IBInternational Baccalaureate
A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: PYP (ages 3-12), DP (ages 16-19). PYP is the primary stage, ages 3 to 12. It is not a set of subjects but a frame for the whole school: learning is built around lines of inquiry, and there are no exams at the end. DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

The school does not publish a staff list or the number of teachers. According to the school, teachers teach entirely in English and require pupils to speak English with each other too; it hires native English speakers, bilingual teachers or those who have lived for a long time in English-speaking countries. The teachers are of various nationalities with teaching experience abroad. Physical education is taught by specialist teachers, technology and music by bilingual ones. On the IB Diploma with performing arts, working professionals from theatre and film teach alongside the IB teachers.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 7 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
