Agora Portals International School is a private secular school of the Globeducate group in Portals Nous, in the municipality of Calvià on Mallorca, by the sea. It has been running since 2008 and follows the model of Agora Sant Cugat International School in Barcelona. In 2011 it was the first in the Balearic Islands to be authorised for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, and now, it says, it is the only one on the islands running all three IB programmes: PYP, MYP and DP. It takes children from the Infantil I1 group, from the age of one, through to the baccalaureate; in the upper years the choice is the Spanish national baccalaureate with science, humanities and arts strands or the IB Diploma. Most lessons are in English, the Spanish curriculum in Spanish; in addition pupils learn Catalan, Chinese and, in secondary school, German or French as an option. Pupils confirm their English with Trinity College and Cambridge examinations. The school is an official music school: every pupil learns at least one instrument, sings in the choir and can take elementary and professional music examinations. Pupils from Spain make up 55 per cent, from other countries 45, with 39 nationalities in all. Teachers come from more than 14 countries. The school is known for its programme of support for children with learning difficulties: the psychology department has six specialists. The 2024 IB class: average score 32 with 50 candidates. The school publishes its fees itself.

Discounts: 20 per cent for the third child, 50 for the fourth, the fifth studies free; 2 per cent for early payment.
Admissions The school admits international pupils and says so directly: 45 per cent of pupils are from other countries, about a third of them European and the rest from other parts of the world, 39 nationalities in all; newcomers are given classmate "friends", and in summer there is a Spanish camp for non-native speakers. Admission goes in three steps: contact through the form or by telephone, a visit to get to know the school, then a formal application, previous marks for applicants from primary to baccalaureate, the form and the documents for enrolment. The procedure differs slightly depending on the age of the child.
Stages and year groups Grades Infantil I1 (age 1) - 2nd year of baccalaureate (age 18). Stages: Infantil from I1 to I5, primary from year 1 to 6, secondary from year 1 to 4 and the baccalaureate. At the last stage the pupil chooses the national baccalaureate with science, humanities or arts strands or the IB Diploma; the school writes that the upper years are arranged so that both programmes can be followed. The IB PYP runs from primary, the MYP in secondary. The school does not state class sizes.

IBInternational Baccalaureate
A Swiss non-profit, working since 1968. Its programmes are among the most widely recognised school programmes in the world. Authorisation is granted stage by stage, so a school with the final stage does not necessarily run the younger ones; which stages this school holds is set out in the line below.
What the badge means for this school. The school is allowed to run this programme and to award its certificate. This is a confirmation of the programme, not a judgement on the school as a whole. The entry stands in the organisation's public register - anyone can check it. At this school: PYP (ages 3-12), MYP (ages 11-16), DP (ages 16-19). PYP is the primary stage, ages 3 to 12. It is not a set of subjects but a frame for the whole school: learning is built around lines of inquiry, and there are no exams at the end. MYP is the middle stage, ages 11 to 16. There are no exams here either; at the end an optional electronic assessment of pupils' work is possible. DP is the final stage, ages 16 to 19: six subjects plus a compulsory core of theory of knowledge, an extended essay and CAS. The diploma is accepted by universities all over the world, and in a number of countries it counts for admission on the same footing as the local leaving certificate.

Reviews
No reviews yet. The community rating counts towards the score once a school has five verified reviews - until then we do not show a zero, so as not to mislead.

A low score here means the school does not write about this, not that the school does not have it: a school with good security and a sparse site will score low. A school can fill in its profile, and the score will be counted again.
The score is counted from 8 of the 9 criteria.Only those with checkable data count: programmes and accreditations from official registers, the fee from a published price list. Where it says "scored on the median", the school has no data and the middle of the list is put in its place, so that a gap gives no advantage. Admissions, teaching staff and reviews come in as their data arrives.
